Recently when I've started up my machine, it starts up slower than usual and gives me two errors;
Resource file not found!>
Resource file not found!>

Running on Windows XP Professional SP3
2GB RAM
School Laptop
Acer TravelMate 6293

Recently I used some registry thing to edit things in my registry to help my computer run faster. I've forgotten the name but I remember it was PCTools who made the program.

I've tried deleting PSD Shell Extensions from my registry as advised here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums…d-5cef03e8e322/
But that didn't work, so I imported my backed up copy back into the registry.

This is my HiJackThis Log:
📎HJT_moved.txt
OK, following your notes, it appears that you performed a rather ill-advised precedure that may have been an automated registry tool. Having experienced a rather unpleasant consequence, you apparently reversed the procedure by importing a registry backup. So maybe you are back at the same place as when you started? whether or not you are, please describe how your machine is presently running and what you would like tohave happen. For instance, are you still experiencing the error messages? Resource file not found!> Resource file not found!> What program is delivering the error message? What other performance issues do you notice? What else have you tried? What do you have planned to try? We will need you to be quite specific and to inform us of the steps you take. Otherwise, if we provide instructions for a fix and you do perform those instructions, but in the process you also perform other steps, then the results may not be as you would wish. I removed your HJT Log, but it remains included for reference as an attached file. HJT is generally used for Malware investigation and for a few steps of removal. Have you experienced any symptoms that lead you to believe that your machine has been infected. What other scans might you have performed. If there is indication of malware, we'll get you over to the Malware Removal forum before performing any work here to restore your system. Best Regards
This is what happened in chronological order: 1. Used automated registry tool 2. Received errors 3. Backed up registry and then attempted to fix errors (Deleting PSD Shell Extension) 4. Fix failed, restored my registry from the back up I receive these error messages on system startup. I assume these messages are from Infineon Security Platform Solution. A performance issue I notice is that it takes much longer to startup (from the log-in screen to all startup programs loaded) I have not tried anything else, I do not plan to try anything else, I expected this forum to be able to help. No malware has been found. I believe there is no risk of infection, hence I posted this topic in this forum. I have had one of my malware issues resolved by this forum, so I know how this forum runs; I will not attempt any other fixes to the ones you advise me. Regards.
The machine I'm typing on is an admittedly "older" and low resource machine but it is HP Compaq. I've been running without PSD Shell Extension…. forever, with no problems. Of the solutions in the link offered by John B., I like the option #1 - uninstall and reinstall the program. This is an annoyance more than an indicator of a huge problem. Doug
I have uninstalled Infineon TPM Professional Package. Errors are no longer received but it still starts up slower than usual. Any help is appreciated.
Let's have a good overview of your machine performance.
Using Internet Explorer as your browser, please go to http://www.pcpitstop.com
In the left hand column please select >Full Test< (free)
You will be asked to Register with a valid email address and to Create a password
After receiving verification of registration, you will be asked to allow an ActiveX component to be installed on your machine to Run the Full Tests. This is safe and no personally identifying information will be accessed.

Run the Full Tests
Once the full tests have completed, please Post your TechExpress link back here into this thread.
The TechExpress link for yo to post is the URL in your IE address bar.
For instance, on the machine I am presently using the link is: http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=21778332
You will notice that it presently has several recommended fixes listed. Yep , this machine needs some work.
We will help you analyze the results of your own machine and assist you in any feature that requires attention.

It is very likely that performance measures will give you suggestions to improve the functioning of your machine.

Best Regards
Doug

After 4:AM PST tomorrow I will be away from this desk until approximately 7:pm PST.
Please be patient until I am back.
It is also possible that one of the other Techs will drop in to help provide assistance.
Hi there

If any other professional could help that would be great, but if waiting for Doug is recommended, I will patiently wait.

If startup time is a problem, I suggest you take a look on the software tab at your PcPitstop test.
Anything in the orange and blue field can be safely disabled from starting on boot. Heres how:

Goto start, choose Run
Type: msconfig

Go to the start tab. Remove checkmarks / ticks in the programs desired not to start on boot.
Reboot. After login you will recieve a text-box, place a checkmark / tick in the option available,
press ok.

For further options to tweak boot up time, you could have a look on this webpage, on how
to disable certain services. Be sure to find the one that corresponds to your current service-
pack installed (E.G. SP2 or SP3)

I lin0056,

I'm just about out the door this morning but decided to have a look at your Pit Test first.
As Abydos states, you may improve startup time by decreasing the processes that load at boot time.

To view recommendations offered by PCPitStop, Select the Software(tab) and then the Processes(tab)

Consider reducing the number of items listed that appear in Orange background(disable)
Consider reducing the number of items listed that apear in blue and light blue background (optional)

I'll try to catch up this evening.

Best Regards
Give it a test drive now that you've reduced the start processes. See if there is anything that you wish was returned to active status (probably not) And consider further paring down the list. Follow the other recommended fix procedures. (Don't worry about Driver Updates at this time) Run and post a fresh Pit Full Tests after you've performed the recommended fixes. See ya later. Doug
This is a complete overview of what I've done;

- Uninstalled Infineon TPM Professional Package
- Disabled a few programs to startup (roughly 5)
- Changed max System Restore space to 2 gb (1%)

New PCPitstop link:
http://pcpitstop.com/betapit/sec.asp?conid=21782001

The link seems to be the same as my old one, but my old results suggest my computer is in the top 19% of computers, while this one suggests I'm in the top 20%, so there's definately a change.

Hi lin0056

You do not "need" any of the above processes running at StartUp.
They are all owner/user option choices.

Follow the instructions provided by PCPitstop Full Tests to deal with upload speed
Increase Internet Upload Speed Internet 102 Kbits/sec
Here's the instructions: http://pcpitstop.com/betapit/tips/IntSpeed…ort=Performance
(note) Back up your Registry before making even these simple changes. :)

You may benefit from updating your Display Adapter:
Display Adapters Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family Intel Corporation 5/21/08
6.14.10. 4953

Let us know how it goes after you consider the above.

Best Regards
