[Resolved] Infected Laptop with A360...

Hello…

This time its my daughters laptop, it has alot of unwanted popups, its slow, and she is :pullhair: out of her head. I installed Malwarebytes and ran a scan, 2hrs later it detected A360, Trojan downloaders, some adware too…got that deleted, downloaded the AFT cleaner, did that, I installed for her Firefox browser, which is what we use, i think her IE is highjacked, the same popups from IE keep appearing even when the browser isnt opened, i downladed HJT for her and ran a scan, could someone take a look at it please?

Hi , welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
    It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
  • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Hi Snow,

Please note that as a Vista user you will need to right click and choose "Run as Administrator" to run the tools we will use.

Please disable WINDOWS DEFENDER
  • Click Start > All Programs > Windows Defender or launch from the system tray icon.
  • Click on Tools & Settings > Options.
  • Under Administrator options, clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation
  • (When we are done, you can re-enable Defender using the same steps but this time place a check next to "Use Windows Defender " check box.)
(When we are done, you can re-enable Defender using the same steps but this time place a check next to "Turn on real-time protection" check box.)

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Right click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it and choose Run As Administrator.

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Right click on ComboFix.exe, click Run as Administrator & follow the prompts.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Please post back with the OTMOVEIT3 log, combofix log and a new HJT (hijackthis) log.

Hi Snow.

Limewire
You have Limewire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

I would recommend that you uninstall Limewire, however that choice is up to you. If you choose to remove these programs, you can do so via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.

We'll use combofix again, but will run it differently.

Please follow all previous instructions regarding security programs.

Open a new Notepad session
  • Click the Start button, click run
  • in the run box type notepad
  • click ok
  • In the notepad, Click "Format" and be certain that Word Wrap is not checked.
  • Copy and paste all the text in the code box below into the Notepad. Do Not copy the word CODE

In the notepad
  • Click File, Save as…, and set the Save in to your Desktop
  • In the filename box, type (including quotation marks) as the filename: "CFScript.txt"
  • Click save
Using your mouse left button, drag the new file CFscript.txt and drop it on the ComboFix.exe icon as shown below.

This will start ComboFix again.Close all browser/windows first.

**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**

You may want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad so you can refer to them as your browsers should be closed when you run this next tool.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • right click JavaRa.exe, and chose Run as Administrator, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
The current version is JRE6 Update 12

  • new HJTlog

Hi Snow

Looks good. We'll clean up the tools.

Click the Start button, click Run. Copy and paste the following line into the run box and click OK

Combofix /u

Next, Open OTMOVEIT3 then click the Clean Up button. You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet - allow this. A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes. This will do some clean up tasks and delete some of the tools you have downloaded plus itself.

Remember to e-enable Windows Defender when you are done.

Some Recommendations and prevention tips

* If you are running Microsoft Office, or any portion thereof, go to the Microsoft's Office Update site and make sure you have at least all the cirtical updates installed (Free) Microsoft Office Update

Security consists of some key elelments. A 2 way firewall, a resident antispyware program, a non resident antispyware program and an anntivrus program are a good start. You all ready have these.

You should also use Spyware Blaster to help immunize your computer.

- SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Learn how your Hosts file can protect you and how you can protect it.
Besides the Hosts file information, there are links to a very good updated hosts file, a host file manager. and some programs that can protect your hosts file.

-Secure your Internet Explorer

From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
  • Click once on the Security tab
  • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
  • Click once on the Custom Level button.
  • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page

- Keeping your Windows up-to-date is crucial to your computer's security. Please go to the Windows Update Site (using Internet Explorer) and download and install all critical updates on a regular basis

- Keep your antivirus program updated, as well as any other security programs you have.

Hi Old…sorry to bother you again…since we did all this, she now cant get on her msn live and facebook,…she is being blocked by a remote firewall…i checked our firewall and its not blocking her and i checked the windows firewall…it also isnt blocking her…what is going on? thanks… snow scratch that…its working now…:) thankx!
