Hello. I think my computer got infected with some viruses from some other computers which are connected to the same router as me. Since then I've deleted the sharing folders service (I used to have many shared folders on my computer) using Network Connections under Control Panel.

I then performed a full scan using Malwarebytes AntiMalware, which did not detect any findings.
I scanned all my harddisks, and skipped my dvd/cd drives (including those mounted by daemon tools). I also included Y drive in the scan, but I have no idea where this drive came from as it isn't listed under My Computer and I've never seen it or created it before.
The log is below:

After restarting my computer, I then did a complete system scan using Avira the next day. There were 3 detections. I deleted all detections reported by Avira.

While the HijackThis scan was being run, there was 1 popup from Avira which was a detection of a previously detected virus.
The screenshot is below:
[external image: Posted Image]
Also a while after the HijackThis scan was over (I don't know exactly how long after), a dialog box from windows popped up.
The screenshot is below:
[external image: Posted Image]
I clicked Cancel for this.

Please help me out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Edit: the topic title seems to have been cut-off. It should say "AntiVir keeps complaining that certain viruses keep re-appearing, located in system folders in C drive"
Hello The_Void and welcome to the forums here at WTT!

:welcome:

First, I have to say great job on the presentation of the issue and logs/pictures given. One of the best I've ever seen. :thumbup:

I can see at least one backdoor running here.

O23 - Service: WMI System App (WMISYS) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system\wmisys.exe

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/w….exe-24561.html

Let's get a deeper scan though, see what else might be there.

Download OTScanIt2.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt2 on your desktop.
  • Open the OTScanIt2 folder and double-click on OTScanIt.exe to start the program. Make sure you close all other programs and don't use the PC while the scan runs.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar. Make sure not to use the PC while the program is running or it will freeze.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Use the Add Reply button and post the information back here in an attachment. I will review it when it comes in. The last line is < End of Report >, so make sure that is the last line in the attached report.

Make sure you attach the report in your reply. If it is too big to upload, then zip the text file and upload it that way
Thanks IndiGenus for your warm welcome and quick reply.
Please hear what I have done so far, it may sound a little complicated but I'm just trying to describe what happened.

I restarted my computer before running the scan. When my computer restarted to windows, these 2 virus detections popped up (I remember seeing them before running the 3 scans I did in my previous post, but I had not seen them in a few days until now), and I chose the delete option for both. The screenshots are below:
[external image: Posted Image]
[external image: Posted Image]

Then I closed all programs (or so I thought) and ran the OTScanIt scan. Unfortunately I didn't close AntiVir for this scan and it kept popping up with so many different virus detections (as usual I chose delete for all), most regarding the BDS/IRCBot and wmisys virus, but also a lot of others which I can't remember. The report file for this scan is in the zip file I uploaded (I called it OTScanIt 1.Txt to differentiate it from the other txt file in the zip file).

I restarted my computer again to do another scan because I forgot to close AntiVir for the previous scan. When my computer restarted, those 2 Schiti viruses popped up again (exact same popups from AntiVir as in the above 2 screenshots).

Anyway, this time I used task manager to manually close the 3 processes related to AntiVir. Then I ran the OTScanIt scan again. The report file for this scan is OTScanIt 2.Txt which is also in the zip file.

Then I restarted my computer again and I got the same 2 virus detections from AntiVir within a minute of restarting again (same behaviour as the above 2 previous times). Then I opened firefox and I am here posting this post now.

Should I run a full system scan again for MalwareBytes AntiMalware and AntiVir?

One thing I noticed is that opening the OTScanIt program will change 2 settings for my "tools, folder options, view" settings. It hides file extensions for known file types and hides hidden files and folders, which I find a bit annoying but I just undo these changes after I close OTScanIt so it's not a big deal.

Thank you for your time and for hearing me out.

Hi, Thanks for the update and logs. Just hold off on running any other tools for now. Let me put together a script for you to run on OT's tool then we'll go from there. Will post back in a bit.
Let's see if we can get that malicious service, then we'll hit it with another tool.

Start OTScanIt2. Copy/Paste the information in the quotebox below into the panel where it says "Paste fix here" and then click the Run Fix button.

[Kill Explorer]
[Win32 Services - Safe List]
YY -> (WMISYS) WMI System App [Win32_Own | Auto | Running] -> %SystemRoot%\system\wmisys.exe
[Files/Folders - Created Within 30 Days]
NY -> wmisys.exe -> %SystemRoot%\System\wmisys.exe
[Files/Folders - Modified Within 30 Days]
NY -> wmisys.exe -> %SystemRoot%\System\wmisys.exe

The fix should only take a very short time. When the fix is completed a message box will popup telling you that it is finished. Click the Ok button and Notepad will open with a log of actions taken during the fix. Post that information back here

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Download ComboFix from one of these locations:
Link 1
Link 2
Link 3
* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : How to Disable your Security Programs
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.
[external image: Posted Image]
Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
[external image: Posted Image]
Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply. Please also post an updated HijackThis log and let me know how it's running.
Notes:
1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.
Ok, let me recall what I have just done.
I copied that script and pasted it in OTScanIt and ran the fix. During the running of the fix, AntiVir again popped up with 2 detections of the BDS/IRCBot and wmisys virus, and I deleted them. My windows explorer seemed to close (like when you use task manager to close an explorer window) during this fix, but other than that everything else seemed ok. The computer also asked to be restarted during the fix, so I restarted it then waited for the fix to finish, after which the log was produced.
Registry entries deleted on Reboot…
I then disabled the Guard for AntiVir, then I ran ComboFix. The first dialog box which appeared asked me to close all opened windows, so I just closed all programs (except for AntiVir since I already disabled the Guard). Then I proceeded with running ComboFix. At no time did it ask me to install the windows recovery console though. So I just proceeded with the fix, which restarted my computer in the process.
When my computer restarted and the fix resumed, the text in the blue box told me not to open any programs while the fix was still running, but I have some programs that load automatically when windows starts up. So I quickly closed msn messenger & daemon tools, and disabled the AntiVir guard again when I saw this. I hope this didn't affect the scan. When it was finally finished, it produced a log for me.
What I noticed immediately after ComboFix was over was that it created an internet explorer icon on my desktop, which I deleted (I removed mine a while back when I started using firefox). Another thing I noticed was that under My Computer, a Removable Disk Y: was created. What exactly is this Y drive? (which I first saw listed in MalwareBytes AntiMalware)
Next, I enabled my AntiVir Guard again, then I ran HijackThis. This time AntiVir didn't complain or have any virus detections popping up.
The log is below:
Finally, I opened firefox and I'm here posting this post. One thing I made sure to do was to set firefox as my default browser again. I don't know how to enable autorun of external media again though, and I would like to enable it after this malware problem is over.
Edit: I noticed that my C drive has a file called msdosx.exe, which was 1 of the files AntiVir gave a virus detection for previously, but now AntiVir doesn't see anything wrong with it. Is that file safe now? Should it be deleted?
Thanks for your help so far. I really appreciate your prompt and regular replies.
Okay I think we're getting there, but more work to do and eventually I would like to see some other scans done. First, I'd like you to check a file out.
Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org, click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:
c:\huadio.tmp
Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.
If Jotti is too busy you can try these.
As far as using combofix, it does reset several IE items to defaults as part of the fix. When we're all done you will probably have to put some settings back to the way you like. It's all part of the process.
I don't know how to enable autorun of external media again though, and I would like to enable it after this malware problem is over.
I don't recommend doing that. Disabling autorun/autoplay is highly recommended to keep malware from spreading via removable media. If you really want it enabled I can show you how. But I don't recommend it.
Another thing I noticed was that under My Computer, a Removable Disk Y: was created. What exactly is this Y drive? (which I first saw listed in MalwareBytes AntiMalware)
Not sure. Do you have any USB drives plugged into the PC?
Yes, looks like it was created again earlier today. It's bad, and well take it out on our next step, just don't click or run it. Once I see the results for the file you upload we can continue.
I dont have the file c:\huadio.tmp, no such file is in my c drive even when I make operating system files visible.
If I could still right click the CD's icon in My Computer to manually launch its autorun, then I wouldn't mind the current settings. Otherwise, I would really like autorun back later.
Nope, I have no external media attached to my computer, and I also didn't put in any throughout this entire time while doing all the scans.
Let's continue with the fix.
1. Open Notepad
2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:
File::
C:\msdosx.exe
Driver::
huadio
Mrcheder_
3. Save the above as CFScript.txt
4. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
[external image: Posted Image]
5. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), please post the following reports/logs into your next reply:
  • Combofix.txt
  • A new HijackThis log.
I created that txt file on the desktop together with the ComboFix.exe icon, and did the dragging as shown. (I also made sure to disable the AntiVir Guard before this)
When ComboFix ran, this time it did ask me to install the windows recovery console, which I did.
Then it proceeded with the scan, and I closed all opened windows like before. The computer restarted and the scan finished with another log.
The log is below:
The CFScript.txt file on the desktop also seems to have been deleted (which is what is supposed to happen I guess).
By the way, I took a look at the services listed when I run services.msc, and there are some services which look suspicious to me, I don't know if I should disable them. (please see the screenshots I attached in the zip file)
Thanks again for your help and quick replies.
Yes
By the way, I took a look at the services listed when I run services.msc, and there are some services which look suspicious to me, I don't know if I should disable them. (please see the screenshots I attached in the zip file)
I believe those are all valid services. Take a look at the following link for some more details on Windows Services, and whether or not they need to be running.
Let's continue with making sure you're clean.
I'd like for you to run this next online scan to check for remnants or anything that might be hidden.
The below scan can take up to an hour or likely longer, please be patient.
*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.
Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner or from here
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.
  • Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition
    files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
    * Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    * Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    * Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select:
Text file [*.txt]
Then, click: Save
Please post the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in
your reply.
(Note.. for Internet Explorer 7 users:
If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%
.)
Or use Firefox with IE-Tab plugin
Let me know how it's running too.
I have been running the scan and it seems to terminate at 11% after 6h+ (the java icon in the system tray closes when this happens). Is there anything I can do to ensure the scan completes (and more quickly too)? I've also noticed that my windows explorer (whenever I need to browse folders) runs more slowly now after carrying out these incomplete scans.
We can try another scanner.
I've also noticed that my windows explorer (whenever I need to browse folders) runs more slowly now after carrying out these incomplete scans.
Rebooting should clear that up.
Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan
  • Click on Scan your PCnow button[external image: Posted Image] located at the bottom of the page.
  • A "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  • Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click "Free Online Scan" *The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place*
Begin the scan by selecting [external image: Posted Image]
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
  • Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later.
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] then click [external image: Posted Image]
The system seems a bit laggy again after running such a scan. Also, according to task manager, the process IEXPLORE.EXE is still running even after I have closed internet explorer. I guess restarting my computer again should clear it up.
Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):
    :processes
    explorer.exe
    :files
    C:\WINDOWS\fix\system.exe
    :commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [start explorer]
    [reboot]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.
Post a new HijackThis log and let me know how it's running.
