Any time I try to run a scan from housecall.trendmicro, the browser closes itself but only after I try to initiate the scan, not for trying to access the site. Furthermore, it's begun closing itself when I try to access my school website to do work. I've tried running virus scans by avant and AVG while in safe-mode as well as testing to see if turning off my internet explorer add-ons / running in safe-mode with networking would help, but I seem to end up with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry about the delay in responding :(

If you still need help, Scan again with HijackThis, and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I still need help, but I won't have access to my computer until tomorrow night because I'm currently on a trip. As far as I can tell, there were a few trojans, which I've removed (I think) and there is probably something related to Java as well. The problem was originally that upon trying to open certain web sites (housecall.trendmicro.com or the site for my school online courses) the browser would close itself. I was also unable to open applications such as Azureus Vuze. After uninstalling and removing all Java components I was able to access these sites. I haven't re-installed Java yet for fear of something going wrong. Sorry for the delay, I will have the new HiJackThis log posted tomorrow night.

Also, updating my definitions for some programs (such as SuperAntiSpyware) will cause the program to crash, but not for others (Ad-Aware AE).
I don't think so… I've been running 64 for a little over 2 years and never had this sort of problem. If the log seems fine, should I try and install Java and see if it all returns to normal? I went through a battery of scans in the meanwhile.

That won't hurt to try.
I'd also uninstall Viewpoint.

Update Java
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
First remove the older versions:
  • Download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.
  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • Click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.
Now let's download and install the newest version:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 10.
  • Click on Windows XP/Vista/2000/2003 Offline and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
  • Reboot your computer.
Lets go ahead and run MBAM.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

TrendMicro still does not detect my Java. I can access my school site as well as Azureus Vuze.
No change. I went to the Java site and had them scan for Java and they identified everything fine. Also tried manually shutting down Java and starting it up before trying again. The Vundo virus that was removed I had removed ago in the past too. Not sure if any of that helps, but I thought I'd just throw it out there.
Lets see if Combofix runs on 64bit

Download ComboFix from one of these locations:

Link 1
Link 2
Link 3

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective Programs

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

Note: Combofix will run without the Recovery Console installed.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

[external image: Posted Image]

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
"copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well.

Notes:

1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser.
3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you – please tell your helper.
4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.

Please don't attach the scans / logs, use "copy/paste".

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
It doesn't run with my OS. I'm also getting the windows error sound every now and then, but I don't get a window pop up or anything.
