:wavey: I'm back for your assisstance.

For the past two days, each time I boot up my desktop (and laptop) I instantly get two warnings from my CA virus scanner that I’ve been infected with JS/MS05-054!exploit Trojan.

Files\Content.IE5\LFFJPXWE\ads[1].htm is JS/MS05-054!exploit trojan.

2/17/2009 12:10:39 PM File infection: C:\Documents and Settings\Judy Mann\Local Settings\Temporary Internet

CA virus scan notifies me of the infection but doesn’t say on the warning box that it’s been cleaned or quarantined the Trojan. When I run a CA scan, it doesn’t pick it up but when running the scan another box pops up saying I’ve been hit again.
I have run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and it doesn’t pick anything up.

I will start a separate thread for my laptop when the desktop has been looked after.

Here’s my Highjackthis log.

Hi miffed, welcome to the forum.

Please be advised, as I'm still in training, all my replies will have to be approved by a teacher or expert before I can post them. This may cause some delays, but I will do my best to keep them as short as possible.

To make cleaning this machine easier
  • Please do not uninstall/install any programs unless asked to
It is more difficult when files/programs are appearing in/disappearing from the logs.
  • Please do not run any scans other than those requested
  • Please follow all instructions in the order posted
  • All logs/reports, etc.. must be posted in Notepad. Please ensure that word wrap is unchecked. In notepad click format, uncheck word wrap if it is checked.
  • Do not attach any logs/reports, etc.. unless specifically requested to do so.
  • If you have problems with or do not understand the instructions, Please ask before continuing.
  • Please stay with this thread until given the All Clear. A absence of symptoms does not mean a clean machine.
I will post back soon with additional instructions.

Thanks
Hi miffed,

It looks like CA may be picking up an exploit in your older java.

You may want to copy and paste these instructions into a notepad and save it to your desktop for reference. All browsers should be closed when you run these tools.

Please download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
  • Close all browsers
  • Double click JavaRa.exe, pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
  • Accept any prompts.
  • Open JavaRa.exe again and select Search For Updates.
  • Select Update Using Sun Java's Website then click Search and click on the Open Webpage button. Download and install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version for your computer.
The current version is JRE6 Update 11
Note JRE6 Update12 may be offered. It is the same except it has support for 64 bit browsers. Either one will be ok)

Next, please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save it to your desktop.
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browser
  • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser
  • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Note your computer may boot a little slower the first couple of times.

Next, please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS.txt will open.
  • Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
—————————————————

Please include the contents of the following in your next reply:

DDS.txt

Please attach the second file; Attach.txt. To attach a file, do the following:
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on [external image: Posted Image] to insert the attachment into your post
Please post back with
  • both DDS logs
No need for a HJT (hijackthis) log this time.

Thanks
Hi Miffed,

It doesn't look like you ran JavaRa as requested in the previous post. Please do so now.

Then run ATF again and post a new HJT log taken after you have finished.

It is important that we get the jave updated and the java cache cleared.

Thanks
Will be back with the HighJack log I now have two JavaJa logs - here's the result of my latest one which is much shorter than the original one an hour or so ago. JavaRa 1.12 Removal Log. Hi Miffed,

Sounds better. One more scan, just to be sure.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Your antivirus program should be disabled during the online scan. This is usually done from it's system tray icon. Please remember to re-enable it after the scan.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions.
  • You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computerr under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As….
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Desktop is a good place.
  • Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Please post this log in your next reply along with a new HijackThis log.
Thanks
You did it! :woot: The Kaspersky scan was clean with an empty log so I can't post it.

Here is the HJT log.
