Hello, Good Morning and God Bless.

I am using a Samsung laptop that has Windows XP SP3 installed in it. I have several anti-virus and malware programs that constantly guard our computer, like Avast! and Spybot - Search & Destroy.

I have a laptop here which has been infected by a number of viruses/malwares. This laptop have gone out of the confines of our home and was exposed to a lot of infected data storage devices, for my sister used the laptop for her Thesis making and I believe virus infected USBs were used on the laptop. I'm sorry to say that I was not able to update my spyware and anti-virus programs before she took the laptop outside. I am also afraid that I and my family might have opened an e-mail or a website containing malicious programs, which caused the infection to our computer.

The computer in itself functions fine. I can still use the internet and no programs are forcefully blocked by the viruses/malwares. But there are noticeable effects that made me sure that our laptop was infected. First, I noticed that at start-up only a few programs loaded when in fact we have a lot of programs lined up for start-up, their respective icons don't show up near the clock any more also. Secondly, when I start-up Firefox the toolbars that I usually use are not there anymore. Lastly, when you open IE7 you see at the title bar 'Sowar - Browser' instead of Internet Explorer.

I made an HJT log and Kapersky Online Scan log here for you. Here they are:

For the most part the laptop's noticeable changes are:

1. Thunderbird isn't my default e-mail program anymore at the start menu. I always set it as my default e-mail client but outlook was set as the default as the virus/malware became apparent.
2. Firefox doesn't start-up with the toolbar I usually use namely the Multiply toolbar. I have already seen the add-ons menu at the Tools menu but it showed there that the toolbar was enabled.
3. SoWar Browser is still seen on the title bar of IE7 when the program is started.
4. The start-up programs load up randomly every start-up. The antivirus may load at one time, or WordWeb might be the one to load next time. The start-up programs are incomplete also when loading for I do not see my firewall Comodo or the sound icon ever loading automatically.

These are the only noticeable changes that I can relate to you, for now. I have followed your instructions in your previous reply, but I kind of used the 'ATF Cleaner' after finishing with the HJT scan and the Malwarebytes scan, I hope that's alright.

I also failed to mention that before I reported my laptop problems here, I took a day in updating the databases of my antivirus and spyware programs. In that time also I initiated scans using the updated programs, and found viruses/malwares infecting the computer. Here is a general rundown of the results of the scans:

1. Avast!
None were detected after the Boot-time scan I scheduled finished.

2. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Found one malware and I removed the infection but didn't save the log.

3. Spybot - Search & Destroy
Found forty files infected with the Brontoq malware, and some other malwares were detected also.

After all these scans and file deletions I was still unable to restore the computer to it's normal functioning, which led me to conduct an Online Scan using Kapersky, which revealed numerous viruses in its scan.

I believe these are all the measures I've done to uproot the infections plaguing our computer. I hope that what I have related would help you in diagnosing and finding a solution for our laptop.

Hoping for the best. Best regards again, and Peace be with all of you up there.
Hi iClone

I am not seeing anything jumping out so lets try this:

Let's check for rootkits:

Blacklight

Download Blacklight trial from here:

http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

* Hit I accept. It will take you to download page.
* Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
* Once saved… double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
* Click accept agreement and Click scan
This app too may fire off a warning from antivirus. Let the driver load.
Wait for it to finish.
* If it displays any items…don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
* It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl….big number

Please post contents of log.

ALSO please disable your realtime av they may stop our fixes. please when you put back only have
one AV running. Also do you have more than one firewall running? if so please stop one of them the could affect each other.
Did what you tasked me to do, including turning off my AV and closing my other firewall, but I downloaded the whole Blacklight anti-virus trial, hope that's fine. Here is the Scan report:

Thanks again for the help, and God Bless.
Good Morning I got your logs and I will take a little while to check them out. Please post back as to how your pc is doing. Please tell me all thats going on right now. mschroe919
The laptop is more manageable now. The problems that I encountered, namely:

I can now adjust them again to their previous default state and no forceful attempts to change the settings are noticeable. The laptop also showed a considerable improvement in its start-up time. I notice no problems now unlike when I posted my report here.

That's all I can say. Thanks again for helping, and Best Regards to you and your colleagues.
Hi iClone
Finaly something popped up so lets do this:

NEXT:
1. Please open Notepad
Click Start , then Run
Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Save the above as CFScript.txt

4. Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.

5. Then drag the CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe as depicted in the animation below. This will start ComboFix again.
[external image: Posted Image]
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

6. ComboFix will automatically REBOOT your machine when the KillAll:: switch is used..

7. Next, re-enable all the programs that you disabled prior to running ComboFix.
CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

8. Post the following logs/Reports:
ComboFix.txt
Fresh HijackThis log

Sorry for the late reply, I was finishing some held-up assignments so I wasn't able to respond at once.

I did what you instructed but this was what happened:

Thank you again for helping me and a Good Day to you Good Sir.
Hi

There was something holding up the fix.
Let do this one agaain:

NEXT:
1. Please open Notepad
Click Start , then Run
Type notepad .exe in the Run Box.

2. Now copy/paste the entire content of the codebox below into the Notepad window:

KillAll::

Registry::

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{cf521edf-e241-11dd-bca9-9a5e2862dcab}]
