Everytime I start my PC I get the white ACTIVE DESKTOP with the following message:file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Application%20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt

Hi,
I replied to your post re AVG installation problem, before I realized you had this issue also.

The two may be related and could possibly be related to a Malware issue if you can think of no other reasons for this to be happening

you may wish to consider downloading HJT
and posting the log in the HijackThis™ Logs and Infections Removal forum here

(don't have HJT fix anything yet)

and wait for our Malware Experts to have a look

(be patient - they are very busy)

Hi there.

Give this a try:

Click Start >> Control Panel. Double click on Display (or Display Properties) and click on the Desktop tab. Click on Customize Desktop and click the Web tab.
For every item in the Web Pages box (except the "My Current Homepage" entry), uncheck it, and delete it.
Also, have a look at the Lock Desktop Items checkbox and make sure it is unchecked.
Click OK and OK again until you have exited the display properties.

As CatByte says, if you suspect any sort of Malware, go ahead and post in our Malware Removal forum for assistance.
