The trouble occurs when I run through Internet Explorer, it is okay when I run through Mozilla. Can you help me please? Shadowwar has done some valuable work with this one. Copy the contents of the quote box to notepad.
Click File>Save As, give it the name myex.reg and under the filename set file types to All Files. Save it to the desktop. When done double click the myex.reg when asked to merge say yes. Reboot. Delete these files if there: C:\\Documents and settings\(username)\LOCAL Settings\Temp\HPCMDTY.DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\c_10230.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\crt32_v2.dll C:\WINDOWS\System32\crt2_v32.dll c:\spad <-- whole folder Create a new folder called C:\HijackThis, move the HijackThis.exe file into the new folder and run it from there. This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong. Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked': R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myexexex.com/searchbar.php R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spad/start.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file://c:/spad/start.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.myexexex.com/searchbar.php R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = file://c:/spad/start.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage&qq=%s R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.myexexex.com/search.php?said=spage O16 - DPF: {10000000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - file://C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\kjnmifbi.exe Reboot when done, rescan with HJT and post a new log here for a final check over. |

Unfortunately I cannot find the set file type instruction in my Save As box. In this I am given four options only - web page complete; web archive single file; web page (HTML only); and text file. I have tried each one and it will not merge - the error box says it is not a registry scrip. The encoding box has no All Files listing, and I can't select all of the 30 or so types.
Can you help me get over this please. Thanks. |

I've attached it to this post - download to your desktop then carry on with the fix.

Thanks for that. I re- read the instructions before receiving your reply and was able to save it on Notepad as directed and then merge it.
Can you help/comment on the following please: 1. The files are merged as directed but the result does not appear to show any of the contents of the Quote Box. 2. I have not tried deleting any of the files yet, as I am not totally confident I have backed them up properly. I have created a new folder in Programs called C:\Hijack this and moved what I believe to be the correct file into it – the one that shows the scan results in the pop up box labelled HijackThis VI.97.7. My problem is that when I later click on to it I need to press scan before any information appears, and that information bears the current date and time extracted, and not the backup date. In short it seems that it has simply done another scan, and not show the (old) saved one. Saving the file to Documents hasn’t helped, because the same happens again. I have scanned it to a word document though, which I suppose could be used if everything else fails. 3 The file shows most but not all of the items to be ultimately deleted. The latest file follows. Your help is much appreciated. The scan is just a snapshot of your system at that time. You now have HJT correctly located so carry on with the rest of the fix.

Thanks for your reply.
I removed the entries in terms of your instructions, but find that when I run Internet Explorer, the problem reocurrs. The scan immediately after the fix comes up clean, then after running IE the next scan shows all/ or most are back again. The only one to be permanently removed is the last one - 016 etc.. I have rebooted three times- and fixed each time - with all browser windows closed, but they still reoccur. The (clean) scan after fixing follows Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 4:09:19 PM, on 31/05/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsvc32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\essspk.exe C:\Program Files\WinFast\WFTVFM\WFWIZ.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\WF2K.EXE C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\D66U\D066UUTY.EXE C:\Program Files\Adaptec\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~2\navapw32.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\E-Color\Common\IconMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe C:\Program Files\E-Color\Colorific\hgcctl95.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Sue\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis-1.zip\HijackThis.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mozilla.org\Mozilla\Mozilla.exe O2 -
