Whenever i use any search engine my browser gets hijacked and rerouted to a different internet site, Usually something like "monster marketplace".

I have ran Lavasoft ad-aware ad also spybt but neither of these programs has stopped the problem.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

You are currently running HijackThis.exe from a Temp folder and in an unzipped form. Both situations create a dangerous location for HijackThis and the necessary backups it creates as they expose these important files to easy deletion by the tools we use. These backups are essential to have in case of error.

A. Please DELETE HijackThis.exe from its present location.

B. Download HijackThis from Here .

• Choose the default location of C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
• Click the Install button.
• Accept the license agreement .
• Click Do a system scan and save a log file. A Notepad file will open.
• Select all the text by hitting the [Ctrl+A] keys, then copy your selection to the clipboard by pressing the [Ctrl+C] keys.
• Paste the log into this thread by hitting the [Ctrl+V] keys.
• when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

A. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 2 and save it to your desktop.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2...allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Now to Clean out the Java cache:

Go into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.

• Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
• There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked
  • Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
• Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
  Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
• Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

B. Please RUN HijackThis

• Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
  
  
• Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

• Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

Please use the Internet Explorer browser, and do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner
Click Yes, when prompted to install its ActiveX component.
(Note.. for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%.)
The program launches and downloads the latest definition files.

• Once the files are downloaded click on Next
• Click on Scan Settings and configure as follows:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    • Extended
  • Scan Options:Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK and, under select a target to scan, select My Computer

When the scan is done, in the Scan is completed window (below), any infection is displayed.
There is no option to clean/disinfect, however, we need to analyze the information on the report.


To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As (above - red blinking arrow)
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar
In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select: Text file [*.txt]
Then, click: Save

A. Most of the malware still present on your machine is contained in Quarantines or in your System Restore Cache. We will be cleaning out the System Restore Cache during the final cleanup procedures.


1. Please delete the content of the following folder but not the folder itself:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine

2. Also, please DELETE the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\ISPSoftware\BTYahoo\BroadbandFromBT.exe<==File
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\kdgrf.ren<==File


B. Once the above has been completed, please tell me how your system is running. If all is OK, we will finish with our final cleanup procedures.

Congratulations, your logs look CLEAN

There are a few things you must do once you system is completely clean:

1. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

2. Now Set a New Restore Point to prevent possible reinfection from an old one. Some of the malware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore. Since System Restore is a protected directory, your tools can not access it to delete these bad files which sometimes can reinfect your system. Setting a new restore point AFTER cleaning your system will help prevent this and enable your computer to "roll-back" to a clean working state.

The easiest and safest way to do this is:

• Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
• Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.
• Then go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
• Click "OK".
• Click the "More Options" Tab.
• Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Here are some tips to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future:

Make sure you keep your Windows OS current by visiting Windows update
regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs. With out these you are leaving the backdoor open.

I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

• Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
• Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
• How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
• How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.

To protect yourself further:

• Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
• Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
