Hello gmusick , Welcome to the forum.

Important: Do this before any fix.

You need to update your version of HijackThis. Open HJT> Open Misc Tools> Pull the side bar down> Check for update online. If that doesn't work, download it from my signature and remove the hijackThis.exe you have now.

Also please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

After the above:

This is what I suggest you do.

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.3 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.05 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I have a flash drive with CWShredder, spybot definition files, ad-aware definition files, hijackthis, etc. Can I do all of this from safe mode, except for the online scans? Otherwise, I keep getting the BSD.

Thanks!
Glen

Yes, except for the HJT post. Try and get that in normal mode.

Make sure those are up to date also.

OK, I did everything you said, almost, and was mostly successful. TrendMicro found 90 viruses, mostly trojans - deleted them all. Spybot found 96 red objects to remove, but during removal Spybot kept dying. Ad-Aware found over 600 objects and said it removed them all. Ran Spybot again. Decided to remove them one at a time. Found 37 objects. Removed most of the objects, but trying to remove "Exact Advertising.BargainsBuddy" was what caused Spybot to die. I tried to reboot into normal mode, multiple times and went into BSD once again. How should we proceed? This error didn't start occuring until after I started removing spyware and trojans. My error is as follows:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates that you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use SAFE mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press F8 to select Advanced startup options, and then select SAFE mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0x000000D1 (0xFF93E000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF97AB484)

*** wwackxt - Address F97AB484 base at F97AB000, Datestamp 4263c4d4

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

How should we proceed?
Thanks!

After several hours of trying, I finally got this. I have updated my HJT software, but I did it in safe mode after getting this logfile, so this should be my last 1.99.0 version. Hope this helps...

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido security suite, and perform a full scan. Remove anything found, and please save the logfile from the scan, because I will ask you to post it here for me later.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

I did the things that you asked. I am still having to work almost exclusively in Safe Mode with Networking. I downloaded Ewido and updated it. I made the bat file and executed it, as well. I ran Ewido to completion and it removed quite a number of objects, but it just went away after it ran. It never asked me to exit, so I never saved a logfile. Here is the most recent Hijack Log. If you need me to run Ewido again, then I can definitely do that. That exercise didn't seem to get rid of the Nail object either.

Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
