"Security Shield" has now installed itself, and can no longer open any browser, get online, or open Outlook Express. Will now have to use laptop to communicate & use a thumbdrive to do actual directed actions on the desktop. [This was earlier, at first. Pls. see edited 1st line above. Google searches show hits, but trying to open one and it redirects. Change search engine to Bing, and hits open normally. Some engine with name beginning with "appbario" automatically installed as default. I forced change and made Google the default: no help. I had to manually change homepage to what it was hijacked from, & Firefox and I'net-Exp both open now, slowly, to desired home page.] Please help. I'm using Windows XP pro, version 2002. shadow5

You could try System Restore. 1. Click Start. 2. Point to All Programs. 3. Point to Accessories. 4. Point to System Tools. 5. Click System Restore. 6. Follow the instructions on the wizard. See if you can find a date the the PC worked.

Thank you, LDtate, for responding. I just yesterday(?) re-formatted my harddrive, cloned a July 10 backup from a 'loose' harddrive, lost 12 days' of input, and eliminated the infection(s). How do I now make a notation to this effect on WTT forum whereas to not waste anyone else's time responding; or will this reply itself cancel the request for help? Thank you again--I know you guys must be awfully busy these days. shadow5
