glad yours up and running, how you getting on with it? must admit i don't remember ever using ubuntu. must have done at least once tho.

Cut the pixel size in half (that should do it).

Navigating around Ubuntu is a piece of cake. Ideal for a Microsoft user to migrate too, or even a complete beginner to get their head around with a little tuition.

For an office environment (suse linux) or for a multimedia environment or another, there are several Linux flavours more suited, but for a newbie general user, I don't think there is anything more suitable than Ubuntu, especially the latest version (i've googled all the Linux flavours and what they are most suited for). That's all I'm interested in, what can I set up for the average Joe or Jean without having to pay for a Microsoft OS (and all the Malware for Windows problems associated with it).

Any editing will be up to Doug not this writer. Personally, I think you have done an excellent job

ok changed the format and quality of the pics all except last 4 anyway, so what they load like now for you lee?

if everything seems ok, i'll put them into a new topic for doug to pin, sorry still haven't gotten around to looking into removal or manual partitioning yet.

Much better. All between 7Kb (black ones) and 22/28Kb (the rest). I guess Dough will finally decide those sort of details.

I'm wondering though, why you use an image bank for these sort of images ?

You only really need a screen capture image like this and they can easily be stored in a folder.

you've lost me there lee,

years ago i was told the only way to post images to a forum was to upload them to a hosting site and post urls to them, so that's how i've always done it.

where's this folder i can put the pics in? and would it be any faster, easier than using the hosting site?

must admit i like the way tomk displays his pictures in monday madness, but can't remember how he said he did it, i was going to look into it too but forgot.

However, I mostly use "Screen Clipper". It's super quick (a few seconds) and easy to click up off the system tray, adjust to the required image and then save. The program creates a folder in My Documents where all the screen clips go. I delete the contents regularly except for images I want to keep. There is also other free Screen Capture software around too. Everyone has their favorites.

Problem is, when I try to go to that link now, Malwarebytes won't let me(?) It's a safe and benign program. It very similar to the Snipping Tool in Vista or W7.

PS Edit:
To add a screen capture image here, you just click on "choose" at the bottom right of your post page. Then you just select the folder you want to go to in your PC, open it and choose the image. Press "UPLOAD" and then click on the "Manage Current Attachments" arrow and click on the far left button of the 3 you see. The one in the middle is for deleting images. You don't have these features if you use quick reply or quick edit.

yes thanks lee, i figured out you were talking about using the attachment feature, never been at a forum with it before so never used it.

there's a post at the test forum i'd like you to read and tell me the speed of the first pic at the original size to see if just by using the forum they open faster without the need for me to lower the quality. http://forums.whatthetech.com/index.php?showtopic=119188



the screen capture i use is part of my linux kde desktop called KSnapshot.

Yeah well.... I'm not smart enough to attach images and get them to work correctly. I used to try and I felt I was successful, maybe, 1 out of ten times. A year or so ago I thought I understood that files could be saved on the site and then used in posts.... never was able to make that work. I've found that often, when teachers or admins attach pictures into their posts... I'm not allowed to see them. I must assume that I'm in the minority with that problem because the posts usually garner comments that lead me to believe that others are seeing something.

Bottom line, I just do what works for me.... so I'd have posted like this:

yes same for me tomk, i visited the site earlier today from my sisters home and noticed i couldn't see my test pics either.

Bottom line, I just do what works for me.... so I'd have posted like this:
