Hello I just finished doing a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 from a recovery disc due to the fact of not having any Ethernet connection. I'm plugged in directly from my router but still no connection. Turns out some drivers are missing and were never installed during the fresh install. The following are drivers I am missing and it shows a question mark with an exclamation mark on each one. Ethernet controller, SM Bus Controller, Multimedia Audio Controller, Video Controller & Video Controller (VGA Compatible) Perhaps the software I'm using to install a fresh copy of windows does not have the right hardware for this particular machine? I tried to download from dell's website all the drivers I needed but it is a self extracting installer that requires an internet connection to continue installing. Not sure what to do from here...

Hi, Sorry to hear of the problems with your machine.
When you formatted did you use the Dell recovery disc and the Dell driver disc?
If you go here on a working machine:
http://www.getpcmemo...-vista-drivers/
you will be able to download the drivers to a flash drive/thumb drive/memory stick, then copy them to the hard drive of the recently formatted machine and install them from there.
Once you have the drivers for your Network adapter you should regain internet connection again

Hey again, I actually tried that particular website, I had the same issue with this too. It's a self extracting installation file that requires internet connection in order to install the necessary drivers. If I load this file from my thumb drive and run it, I receive a message that says : This self extracting zip file is part of the multi disk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set. (which I don't have) I guess this ethernet port on this PC uses a Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Integrated Network Driver I don't have a dell disc for driver's either. The CD i used reads: Operating System Already installed on your Computer Re installation CD Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

Hi, Ok I understand
Use this link
http://support.dell....temID=PLX_GX520
the network driver is under 5 (Network),
Once you have this installed it should be easy for you to install the rest.
Post back and let us know how you get on

Hello, I have the same missing drivers (& PC) as Mordimer, and I re-installed with a Dell XP SP3 reinstallation CD (same reason he did. Downloaded two drivers (R97582 & R161008), tried re-installing from both flash & (copied to) hard drive but the wizard can't find anything. What am i donig wrong? Thanks

Hi kozmo61,
and welcome to the WTT forums.
Sorry to hear about the driver issue.
For these computers they usually ship with 2 recovery discs, one to reinstall the operating system and the other for reinstalling drivers and utilities. You could use the second disc to install the drivers you require and this would be a quick fix.

If you cant lay your hands on the disc then if you use the link that I provided to Mordimier then input your Dell service Tag you should be able to download what you need.

My data sheets indicate that you are probably trying to install incorrect drivers.....

You could also take a look here:

and see if this does the trick for you
