I have received an email apparently from yahoo.verification@yahoo.com asking for verification of my account and from my reading that if it's not verified, my account will be suspended after 24 hours. This is not an unused account as they refer to in the email. It is in daily use. This is the body of the email:

We appreciate your being a Yahoo! Account user. Sincerely, Yahoo! Customer Support Please reply to this message. This is a service related to your use of Yahoo! Mail. You'll notice that the same paragraph is repeated twice, but a bit differently worded in the first sentence the second time. Each paragraph is in a different font and a different colour.

Don't know whether this is genuine or not, but I also don't know that Yahoo would ask for all the details given above. At the same time I can't afford to lose this account.

Does anyone know if this would be genuine or not? Has anyone else received the same email?

Thanks for reading and in advance for any help offered.

Bogus, BS, Phishing

Due to the congestion in all Yahoo users and removal of all unused Yahoo Accounts,Yahoo would be shutting down all unused Accounts

That is horrible English grammar, not something I would expect from a company as well known as Yahoo.

Also, if Yahoo wanted you to confirm something they would provide a link you would click on that would take you to a confirmation page, they would not ask you to provide your account information.

I would contact Yahoo and let them know about this phishing expidition. Probably not new to them but best to let them know so they can warn their customers.

Hi hedley, Unfortunately there are a lot of mass emailings of these fraudulent emails going "the rounds" at the moment. You did well to check before taking any action. It's best for you follow Ztruker's usual excellent advice. Regards paws
