'A disc read error occured. Press ctrl + alt + del to restart.'

My mother was using my laptop when this message appeared on my toshiba satellite laptop. I think she may have lost grip and tapped corner on floor but am unsure entirely what has happened. Regardless, I need my laptop back in working order!! Please save me!

You may never actually obtain the full facts about what happened to cause this problem..

Computers and their components are vulnerable to physical damage.
Yours may have been damaged... particularly the Hard Drive.

We don't yet know how serious the damage is.

To discover whether or not the Hard Drive is going to be recoverable, use the below linked resources and select the tool appropriate to the Manufacturer of your particular Hard drive...

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

____________

It is also crucial for you to recover and save any important files, documents and media that you wish to keep.

Consider using Linux Slacko bootable OS for this purpose.

With Linux Puppy (Slacko) you can operate the Laptop via Optical Drive and RAM, and gain access to files and folders on the Hard Drive which you may wish to save to external Hard Drive or USB memory device.

Keep us posted with your progress.

Best Regards
