Hi mschore919,

Bad news. Although my computer's connection shows good connection with strong signals; however, it cannot connect to the Internet explorer, nor can it connect to MSN messenger. From MSN trouble shooter, it shows problems as following: Hosts file..., DNS..., and Key Ports... And problems do not get solved by using "Repair."

Please advise me what to do to get this fixed.

thanks,
Rusheng

Hi

lets get ie working again
Now please Download LSPFix from

HERE:

and Run the Program. Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Check the "I know what I'm doing" Button

Now that the LSP has been moved to the Remove section, you can finish the remove process by clicking on the Finish button designated by the blue box in the figure above. When you click on the Finish button the LSP will be removed from your computer in the correct manner so that the LSP chain does not break.
When LSP-Fix is done removing the LSP you will see a summary box similar to Figure 4 below:

then reboot and post a new hjt log

good luck mschroe919

Hi Mschroe919,

I ran the LSP and it showed "No problems found," and after checking the "I know what I'm doing" Button I clicked on the "Finish" button and it showed "No changes necessary. 0 NameSpace provider entries removed. 0 NameSpace provider entries renumbered. 0 Protocol provider entries remoed. 0 Protocol provider entries renumbered."

So basically, nothing has been changed or done. Please advise for another option. Thanks!

Also to mention, my friend and I are using two laptops so sometimes I used her LAN connection and sometimes I used my wireless connection. I am not sure if the IE problem came from switching between the two different types of connection at all? Thanks so much!

Oh, I just notice your new post above, I will try it now. thanks.

Hi MsChroe919,

Winsockxpfix does not solve the problem either; I remember seeing a quick prompt something like this "no registry ... was found." Then after clicking on the fix button and rebooting, I still could not browse the Internet, nor to use MSN messenger. MSN still shows problems with DNS and Key Ports. And it also says something like "DNS could not resolve IP addresses."

Please advise more. Thanks!

Hi,
it seems like your configuration needs to be reset. Yes switdhing back and fourth could upset the ip configuration. You might contact your provider to either reset the modem and or router. because with the info you gave me from the ip config command, tells me your network adapter is working.
Are you telling me that you can't get on the internet wireless/ or cable?

do you have cable or dsl?

your ip provider can tell you how to reset it, but to reset mine I shut off the pc, the modem, and the router. On the router there should be a little hole for resettuing it. If so take paper cllip or tooth pick and hold that in for at least 30 second, and leave off. Next look for reset hole on router, and do the same. Now when all is done try turning on the cable/dsl mode. then turn on router. Now wait till all lights are blinking, then turn on the pc and let me know if that did it.
I maybe won't be able to get back untill late tonight or tomorrow.
good luck mschroe919

I am using either an unsecured wireless connection (just pretty much somebody else's wireless that I can receive in my area) or a nation wide modem called "clearwire" modem which has a cable that connects to the laptop and it has no reset button, just very simple plug in. Or you can click on the link to see how it looks like. http://www.clearwiredeals.com/Clearwire.html

You asked, "Are you telling me that you can't get on the internet wireless/ or cable?" Answer: yes, I cannot.

thanks for your continuous help!

Rusheng

Hi

First a couple questions....Are you or yor friend paying for the Clearwire

and I am advised that it's not legal using someone else's wireless connection.
So if the Clearwire is legaly purchase and you were able to get connected before. You may have to call them and get the settings again? But There is another thing to try to maybe get it workin as before. Try this network magic free trial...

get it

HERE:

NOTICE:
This is only a 7 day free trial. So I suggest you work on it right awy cause in 7 days it goes

I will stay with you to get your cable internet going, can' commit on the wireless. However if the cable gets going you might be back to before.

Hi MsChroe919,

First of all, my friend's Clearwire is a legal purchase. Now let me try out network magic and I will come back when I am done with that. Thanks again for sticking with me.

Although I had shut down or closed both virus scanner and Zonealarm, I still got the following message, with wireless connection.

Network magic trial is not enabled
The licensing server could not be contacted. The server may be unavailable, or security or firewall software could be preventing this software from accessing the Internet.

Then I turned off wireless and use clearwire instead and I still could not browser the Internet.

So one way led to another, finally I figured out that it was the conflict of using both Clearwire and wireless connections at the same time. Basically, after I turned off wireless and hooked up with only Clearwire cable and after a little while my laptop detected the previous wireless and connected with that again and ended up nothing worked. So after finding that out, I deleted the wireless connection and then Lo behold all things are back to normal.

What confused me still is before I installed Network magic and connected with clearwire, where did any of the conflict come from? I was just using one wireless connection back then.

Anyhow, it works now. Thank you, thank you and thank you!
