Hello and welcome to the forums I would like to start with the following
CODE hi , im trying to help a freind out, he couldent sign into yahoo or msn for some reason This isn't always the operating system, this could be the server which could of been down for maintence, this is normally always fixed within 24hours. If it has been 24hours and you still have problem then problems are elsewhere CODE so he inserted the xp disk and it gave him the option to fix xp or reinstall xp , but he dosent want to loose all the files he has so he used the fix option but it asks fo admin password , when he types it it keeps saying wrong password , i really need to no is there a standard password to let him in? Unfortuantly Sir here at What The Tech we cannot provide support of bypassing passwords on machines. Although many request maybe legitmate we are unable to tell on forums what is and what is not so we have chosen not to provide support on this issue and I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. There are ways to backup data although you are unable to get into your machine, what I reccomend is for you to download a GUI version of linux that has a live cd option (example suse, fedora) this will get you access to your system where you can then backup all your files Regards This post has been edited by wizzy2k5: Jul 14 2008, 09:34 AM |

Hi Wizzy2k5,
Nicely done. http://forums.whatthetech.com/_t93463.html...st&p=474085 And furthermore, there is no need to be apologetic about the policy. (Unfortunately Sir.....) You handled it well. Here's what I've suggested to others dealing with similar situations. You may recognize some of the wording from G2G, where my "canned" is posted and the one mostly written by Starjax is posted. I include both below from a thread here at WTT. My reply below may be useful for helpers here. First, I will state that in my opinion, we "never" have sufficient information presented over the internet here in our Forum to determine the legitimacy of a request to get around passwords. Therefore, I am most inclined to use the second of the two following responses. However, MS offers legitimate assistance, with best practice suggestions. (per the first listed suggestion below) The information is readily available from MS. Both a bogus and a legitimate user will still be defeated, if they have lost their password and have not created a password recovery disk. The MS recommendation does not "give anything away", but does provide the discussion of the problem, recommended best practice, and steps for a legitimate user. As such, I believe that it is the limit of "informative" information that we can provide. The second option, is my own wording, and I will offer permission to use it here as a "canned" for our helpers. The first was developed primarily by others in a process that I was a small part of making. I'm relatively certain permissions can be obtained to include the text as a "canned." I will ask, if we decide that we want to use it. __________________________ 1. CODE If you created a password reset disk for Windows XP, you can use that disk to reset the password on your account. For more information on how to create and use password reset disks go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base: How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer that is not a domain member in Windows XP How to create and use a password reset disk for a computer in a domain in Windows XP If you don't have a password reset disk, the other option is to log on as the Administrator (or to have the person who is the machine's Administrator log on) and change the password for your user account. For information on how to do this go to the following Mircosoft article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q321305 How to Log On to Windows XP If You Forget Your Password or Your Password Expires. If you don't know the Administrator password, and don't have a password reset disk, then you will not be able to log on to Windows XP, and will need to reinstall the operating system and recreate any user accounts. _________________ I used to use this next response and believe that it is still suitable in situations where the poster is asking for crack information or workarounds. Second Approach: (If assistance of password crack software is requested) ________________________ 2. QUOTE BIOS or Operating System's passwords are there for the purpose related to Security and Privacy to protect the legitimate owner of a machine. While there are many locations on the Internet that might help you learn about managing passwords for a machine's BIOS or Operating System, we at WTT do not assist in what amounts to hacking past a machine's Security and Privacy safeguards. While such requests are often legitimate, and come from users who experience exactly the kind of problem that you post, we have no way of determining legitimate vs. not legitimate, therefore we do not respond to such requests. Wizzy2k5.... Feel free to use any of the above as "canned" when you encounter such situations. Again, good work. Best Regards, Doug P.S Wizzy2k5... do you have your PM function turned off? Or maybe you have not yet acquired PM functionality yet? If not, it should kick in after post-count 15, I hope. |
