Hi there.
I have had this laptop with Windows Vista on it for a couple of months now. When I firdt got it everything was perfect. About a week or two ago, the internet speed went really slow. It seems to take the same amount of time to load a page as it does on a dial up connection. maybe even longer. Please help...... Thanks in advance Hombre |

Is this the same computer that you posted 3 HJT logs for in February and March of this year and failed to follow through with LDTate and Little Eagle attempted help offered to you? It is imperative that you do not waste Malware volunteers time when all they are trying to do is assist you when you post for help. When you post back, tell us what maintenance you currently perform on your computer to keep it free of all Malware and nasties please. kind regards, |

Hey.
Fortunatley the last computer gave up on me and is no longer in service :-) By no means did I mean to waste anybody's time, especially one of the volunteers for this site as they have helped me out so much in the past....I was struggling to keep an active internet connection and therefore I couldnt reply to their posts. I apologise for any inconvenience caused to those volunteers. The computer came with Norton on it, but ran out a couple of weeks ago i think. I have tried unsuccessfully to download and install AVG free anti virus. With my internet connection playing up, its extremely difficult to do anything on the net. As far as the firewall goes......I believe it's the windows firewall on the computer. Thanks again in advance Hombre |

You did not answer my question above, please do so as if you are not running Antispyware software, and do not have a Firewall that is working for you, your system is most likely glogged with nasties. Please download and run ATF-Cleaner by Atribune then post back how your computer is running. Before you run it, Select All from the options offered. I eventually downloaded the program and ran it. I have just tried to get back to this page and it is still taking a lifetime. I ran a disk defrag the other day. That is about all I know how to do really. It's not running anti-virus software i dont think unless there is one in windows? I have just started tring to download AVG again, but the download speed is really slow. Sometimes pages can load up really fast. However, when I go onto youtube the computer wont stream the videos. I have to wait about 5-10 minutes to watch a 2 minute video clip.

Hombre,
Are you on dialup or ADSL Broadband? Please read this link to assist you with your posts to us. You say you ran ATF-Cleaner.exe, tell us if it has made any difference and can you remember how many temp files were removed? So we can get specifications of your system, please download and run SIW.exe. In the left pane highlight Hardware, then Memory, wait for it to load into the right pane. Please post back how much memory you are running on your Vista Laptop. Is this a new Laptop? What is your Internet Service Provider plan? perhaps the slowness of your connection is due to it being throttled in speed because you have used your allocated downloads for the month? Hey
I have ADSL broadband. Its an unlimited download plan. So it cant be that. No, running the atf cleaner hasnt made any difference whatsoever. Yeah, its pretty much new....I've had it about 8 weeks now. from brand new. That program I just downloaded tells me under the memory summary box that there is a maximum capacity of 2048MBytes. Hi Hombre,
That is good news, take the computer back to where you purchased it as you would have a warranty for at least 1 year which is mandantory here in Australia, so perhaps where you live it is the same? My guess is you have one or more viruses and I don't think where you purchased the computer is going to do anything for you, other than (possibly) wipe everything and do a restore to factory state.
