My computer is "infected" with spyware and I'm not sure how to remove it safely. I downloaded hijackthis but I haven't run a scan yet, and when I do, I'm not sure what to delete. If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.

I need to see another log from HijackThis.

• Run Hijackthis.
• Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
• Next click on Open uninstall manager.
• Press the Save list button.
• Save the file to your desktop, with the default name of uninstall_list
• Copy & Paste the entire contents of that file in your in your next post.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.


Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
• The log can also be found here:

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
   Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
   Archives
   Mail databases
5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
9. Please post this log in your next reply, along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Okay- After running the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware scan and removing the selected items, I had to restart my computer. After the restart, the problem appears to be gone. The balloon warning me that my computer was infected is no longer popping up constantly. Here is the logfile for that scan:

Every once in a while (it just happened again) a Windows Security Alert will pop up with the name of a file and ask me if I want to block this software from sending data over the internet. It says that Windows firewall has detected unauthorized activity but it cannot help me block it. You have LimeWire, a P2P/file sharing programs installed on your computer. P2P applications like it are the largest source of malware we see. You'll be doing yourself a favor by removing it.

I would recommend that you uninstall LimeWire, however that choice is up to you. See below for instructions on how to remove the program, along with others.

If you wish to keep it, please do not use it until your computer is cleaned.


Viewpoint Manager is often installed without the users permission. If you didn't install it, or if you did but you no longer use it, I recommend you get rid of it.

You also have several old version of Java left over, that you do not ned as you already have the latest version. Here is how to remove these along with LimeWire and Viewpoint.

Please click Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.
Find the item below on the list and click Remove.

I am glad to hear things are running better but we need to run an online scan to make sure all the malware is gone and to clean up.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
   Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
   Archives
   Mail databases
5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
9. Please post this log in your next reply.

Hi...sorry that last scan took so so long. I'm not sure what to do next. The Kaspersky online scan report told me that my computer is still infected, and these Windows Security Alerts keep popping up with warnings about different Trojan files/unauthorized activity.
