My computer is Dell Dimension 3000, Windows XP Pro., with Zone Alarm Pro, Eset Nod32 Anti-Virus. I use Firefox v3.0.2. I am a careful web surfer and downloader. and regularly scan with A-Squared Free.

My Zone Alarm Pro keeps detecting what it says is a serious Spyware, Win32.Download trojan. The registry file detected the last time this occurred (today) was identified by ZA Pro as: RegistryKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B} .
After I delete this file, as ZA Pro recommends, it comes back the next day or so, even though I almost never use my Internet Explorer v7.
Attached is a Hijack This scan.
Is this really spyware or is it a false positive?

Thanks for any advice yo may give.

ozyank,

Welcome, what you posted about is related to Quicktime. You have posted before correctly, why would you post your HJT log that opens in Notepad as an attachment in Word???? Please do not attach any logs or reports, just copy and paste them into this thread.

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required

Hello and thank you for the new log thumbup.gif

Not looking at anything earth shattering on your log.

This program is not malicious but is sometimes used by malware, if you did not install it , uninstall it via the Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel, if its not listed let me know.
O23 - Service: PsShutdown (PsShutdownSvc) - Systems Internals - C:\WINDOWS\System32\PSSDNSVC.EXE

Disable the TeaTimer, leave it disabled until we're done or it will prevent fixes from taking

  • Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode.
  • If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode"
  • On the left hand side, Click on Tools
  • Then click on the Resident Icon in the List
  • Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts.
  • Restart your computer.<--You need to do this for it to take effect

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

If you set this then leave it be otherwise fix it
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!
**Note** Go to Options> Cookies and any you want to keep move them to The Keep window

Run this scan, it won't remove anything but will give a detailed log of whats going on on your system

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
