Hi there,

Recently, I just bought a samsung portable hard disk and unfortunately the old version of Windows like Windows XP are unable to detect it.

On Vista, it works perfectly. Are portable hard disk nowadays are set to work only on Vista and not on older version of windows?

If there any solutions to this problem because it really kill me when I want to transfer files with my friends that are using Windows XP.

Thank you.

Hi Reconter,

Tell us the system requirements for and item/serial # of the portable HD you purchased as it is hard to help you with no exact item/serial # of your Samsung's new purchase.

kind regards,

The "model" number is probably more useful than the serial number - but at any rate, tallin is exactly right, we would only be guessing without knowing what exactly it is you are talking about. For example, some external drives use a USB connection, some Firewire, and more and more are using eSATA - external SATA ports.

The device "should" be simply Plug 'n' Play - and XP should notice, and recognize it. However, if there is something unique about this Samsung device, there may be special drivers you would have to install on the XP machines.

Did you try it more than one XP system?
