I get a black screen with a message that looks like this

<windows root> \system 32\ hal.dll please reinstall file
this started after i picked up a virus and/or malware on line today

Can someone help me
I am running XP media Center on a HP Paviloin a1423w
I can even get windowws up to run a virus fix
