I got past the display problem now im trying to install a new XP Pro onto an un-formated HDD. Im running the XP Pro setup im not sure what to do about what its asking. Its asking me if i want to install on an unpartitioned space or to create a partition in that space.

Blaircroft,
That question comes down to personal preference. An advantage in deciding to create a partition into which to install your operating system, is that if cause arises that compels you to repair install or format and reinstall your OS, your other partitions which can be used for documents, images, and other important files can remain safe and undisturbed during the process. I generally prefer such a method of partitioning, even though by using good security and practice I have yet to be compelled to repair install or format and reinstall. Having the option available is still a valuable advantage. Another strategy against catastrophic failure is that of imaging your hard drive so that it can be replaced exactly as when it was originally working well. You will find many of the regular helpers here at WTT use disk imaging for backup and protection against catastrophic loss. You will have to format your entire disk or individually format the partitions that you create before installing your operating system or using the additional partitions for storage or applications. Good luck with your adventure. |
