Hi Bob
Nice machine...I also use ebuyer a lot.....keen prices and fast turnaround.
Your Acer uses an ic on the mainboard for sound so i's the mainboard chipset drivers you need but make sure you get the ones for XP!
Hopefully you will find the XP drivers on the Acer site ...you can look up the details for the mobo and download the XP chipset drivers
Hope this helps
Regards

hi paws,

thanks, it's a nice machine, i like it, seems very good.

Sadly, the drivers on the Acer site do not work (the XP sound driver) and after searching the web downloading various bits and pieces i lost hope for a while.

I then decided to check the motherboard like you suggested, but sadly, there doesn't seem to be any kind of drivers made for this chipset (that aren't Vista) so i've arrived at the conclusion that companies must be pushing Vista so much, they're not focussing on XP drivers as much, if at all now. Sad but true!

In the end i just put an old PCI sound card in, works fine for playing music whilst typing up letters etc.

cheers for the reply,

'Bob

Glad you got it fixed Bob thumbup.gif
Its a pity there are no drivers available for your mobo for XP...it might be worth an email to Acer support?
