Let me say it again: My computer is SLOWER than molasses lately. I know it's not the fastest computer...it was my MIL's and I'm grateful for it, but my GOSH. I can hardly browse anymore without it slowing WAY down, or just freezing up. My kids play a lot of computer games on it too. I have done some defrags, both in and out of Safe Mode, cleaned up the drive, did both virus (AVG) and spyware/malware checks (Spyware Buster, Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware) and ALL have found NOTHING! Anyway, so here I am again. Here's my HJT log... Ken,
by the way Hi Anyway, after looking through some of the stuff I posted (most of it seems like a foreign language to me), I see a lot of "junk" that is there...is it on my computer? Like, anything AOL. I don't use them for ANYTHING. Is there a place on What the Tech that can help me de-junkify my computer? I don't want to tie the Malware forum up with this stuff. That is, after we verify that I'm malware/spyware free! |

Good Morning,
Yep , your malware free Total Physical Memory: 254 MiB (512 MiB recommended). <-- 256mb is about the lowest basic amount of memory that windows will run on, once you start adding programs and what not it can really bog you down. A memory upgrade is the most economical upgrade to enhance system performance that you can do. I don't know how your system is set up memory wise but to add another 256MB right now is around $30, more memory would even be better. You can go here and run a free scan of your system, it will let you know what you have and what you can add , I used to build systems and this is the company that I bought all my memory from and so do the big computer manufacturers . http://crucial.com/
You can post in our other forum and they can guide you through what to remove and what to keep, be sure to let them know you posted here and that your system is clean. http://forums.whatthetech.com/Microsoft_Windows_f119.html

Thanks much Ken. I kind of started thinking it might be my system memory. I spent most of last night and this morning removing a bunch of unused files and programs. Hopefully it will help. And yes, I've known for a while I needed more memory, but didn't think it was too much of a problem. The computer just kept freezing up and just "didn't want to work". Glad to know it's not sick though!
Thanks for your direction and help. |
