OK I got this trojan.vundo...trying to get rid of it but so far unsuccessful. Symantec antivirus finds two locations of it in my system32 folder...as .dll files. Neither can be cleaned, quarantined or even deleted.

From what I've gathered the best method is running hijack this and posting the log so I took that first step.

The two files symantec said are infected are C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dDSLBUKd.dll and C:\WINDOWS\system32\iifcaXqr.dll. I tried taking care of them with hijack this but it would just go blank and when rescanned they are still there.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
  • Post that log back here.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  1. Close all applications and windows.
  2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.

Thanks.

It appears that the trojan is gone. Im able to access the sites I couldnt before and both infected files are now gone. Must have been Malwarebytes program. Thanks a lot for the help, let me know if I should do anything else.

Hi, glad to hear things are running better. Sorry about the delay in responding, haven't had a chance to get on here in the last few days.

There are indeed more steps you should take to clean up the computer, so I would be grateful if you stick around while I sort this out for you.

Thanks.

Hi

From your MalwareBytes log, I can see that you recently had a Backdoor Trojan:
QUOTE
C:\WINDOWS\system\svchost.exe (Backdoor.Bot) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

More information on Remote Access Trojans can be found here.

I suggest you do the following immediately:
  • Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.
  • DO NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passwords and transaction information.

Its very possible that anything could have been installed on your computer by the remote attacker, including opening other backdoors and installing rootkits. While we can attempt to clean what we see in your logs, we cannot guarantee that your computer will be completely in the clear since we have no way of knowing that has been done to the computer. Your computer could be completely compromised at this moment. It may be prudent to backup your information, reformat, and reinstall.

To help you make your decision, here are a few related articles that i suggest you read:

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

==============================
Should you wish to continue cleaning, please remove all P2P (peer-to-peer) programs from your computer. Our policy has recently changed with regards to P2P programs, and now we require that all are removed from your computer before we are able to clean it (Our Policy).

I can see you have Limewire installed. To remove it (and any other P2P programs you may have), please do the following:
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove by Limewire (and subsequently any other P2P programs you have)

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/commun...protection.mspx
http://www.techweb.com/wire/160500554
http://www.internetworldstats.com/articles/art053.htm

Let me know what you want to do in your next post.

Thanks.

hey...sorry. I called my bank to make sure there was nothing out of place...everything seemed normal.

So if I got rid of that trojan on the scan would a user still have access to my info? I am using this computer right now and its been working fine and no signs of anything since that scan. But if you think its best I will go through with reformatting or reinstalling. Will I lose anything or be able to retain pretty much everything?
