I am a new user to Microsoft Outlook 2007. It has been installed for three days during which time I have been using each of the email, calendar, contact and to do list functions without incident.

This afternoon I was in the email part of the system when I decided to look at my calendar. I pressed the Calendar tab in the bottom left corner of the screen. Instead of replacing the emial highlighting, It highlighted IN ADDITION to the email tab . I got the system not responding message. The system tried to send an error report to Microsoft, but that also hung up after a few minutes. I used the Task manager to exit which also hung up. Eventually using task manager I could close down each program running individually each time getting system could not close down one each program before finally exiting.

I rebooted, repeated the process with exactly the same results. The Calendar element of the program just stops Outlook working at all, each time the Calendar button is pressed.

I am a new Outlook user (previously Eudora email and Lotus Organiser 6 contact) , calendar and to do list.

I am running a Dell with a Local partitioned disk TOSHIBA MK1252GSX . I have plenty of capactity using Antivir virus protection and Microsoft Windows XP Professional

BIOS Version: Dell Inc. A12

.

I am not very computer savvy. Does anyone have any ideas how I could fix the problem. Have I left out any vital information to enable someone to help me.
Everything else seems fine at present.

Hi and welcome to the WTT forums

1 It might be worth trying System Restore and choosing a date before the trouble started...there's no guarantee that it will do the trick but its worth trying
Start>All programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and follow on screen directions.

2 If this does not help with the problem then you can easily undo the System Restore so you re back where you started from.

3 Next with Microsoft Outlook open click on Help and select Office diagnostics, click on the CRT logo and see if the built in repair tools can do the job for you

4 If still no joy then it looks like a case of uninstalling Microsoft Outlook and after a reboot installing it afresh

5 Don't forget to reboot your computer between each step...( a full shutdown and restart, not just a hibernate/standby
Good luck
Regards

Hi I fixed the problem without needing quite so drastic as a system restore. The advice I got was to do the following

I ran Outlook diagnostics . said everything was fine even though it clearly wasn't
I opened Outlook in safe mode - the calendar works
I opened Outlook in safe/ cleanviews - the calendar didn't work

I ran updates for Microsoft and Windows. There were two outstanding updates, one being explorer 7. No idea what the other one was.
I reopened Outlook.

Its working again.

magic !

Hi That is good news, well done
thumbup.gif
Glad its workig Ok,

Incidentally using a System Restore point is not generally considered to be a drastic step..it only takes a minute or two and can often get folks out of trouble......The System Restore is not to be confusdd with using a manufacturer's Restore disc in order to return the ecomputer back to "factory".......now that can be considered drastic!
