Hi,
Well recently I was linked a site that was supposedly supposed to be a "hilarious" video. The only thing "hilarious" about it was how many viruses I got. Well I used Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware and scanned with AVG 7.5 Free. I was able to delete a lot of viruses that way. Well I turned my computer offabout two days ago. I come to turn it on, and when the Windows loads, it completely restarts. It doesn't even let me get to my login name. I wanted to see how long it would keep this up, and it went on for about an hour. So, I gave up and shut down. Well today, I turned it on and its still a mess. I tryed booting it in Safe Mode but then just a bunch of codes scrolled down...then it restarted. I'm not sure how to fix it. Anyone have the same problem and give me a solution?

The fact that you cannot boot into Safe Mode is not good.

Can you see what the last line is before it reboots? Do you have your Windows installation disk?

If this came across my bench, the first thing I would do is (besides blasting all heat trapping dust out of the interior) is pull that hard drive and slap it in another computer as a slave, then backup all the data/personal files. Then I would run chkdsk /r on that drive. If chkdsk completed successfully (can take many hours) re-install the drive back in the original PC.

Then I would remove all but one stick of RAM, extra drives, USB devices, connect up the power and try again - checking to make sure the CPU fan spins up in the process. If boot fail, I would disconnect power and swap out RAM sticks until each stick is tried - making sure I observe necessary ESD precautions at all times.

If still not good, I would try to boot to the install disk and do a Repair Install - see Michael Stevens XP Repair Install.

Ok,
I got the final code that scrolled down : multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\gagp30kx.sys

Hm, well there it is, and in the mean time I'll do all the other things that you said.

Does the boot process stop at that point? (just wondering how you were able to read all that if it rebooted immediately)

Note that driver is a motherboard driver for via chipsets to communicate to the AGP graphics system. Are you using a separate graphics card, or on board?

I am using seperate graphics card. I had to have my computer restart tons of time so I could read it. Yes, it does stop at that point. But then it just restarts.

If your motherboard has its own graphics, you might try setting the moving to that and resetting the BIOS then boot and hopefully it will boot - if not, then unless someone else has any ideas, I think you are looking at a repair install, or full install - I hate recommending a full (fresh) install as that is always a last resort - everything else failed type effort, because so much is lost and you can end up months or even years behind in security updates. But if we can't get past the stage you are stuck on, I see no other options.

Did you try the windows repair suggested by Digerati?
The repair will not delete any of your stuff on that PC, except
for upgrades from MS, which have to be downloaded and
installed once more.

It sounds like your missing a lot of boot files. This is
assuming its a software rather than a hardware issue.

Well, I need to use an XP CD for that, and my CD Hard Drive doesn't read disks. Nor does my USB ports. Lol, I may be due for a new computer. Well thanks all, sorry I wasted time :\

Hi Leddwing

Do you have a recovery partition?
A new DVD/CD drive is cheaper than a whole new PC wink.gif

Not waste of time, every "situation" is a learning if one is willing.
besides, if I thought this waste of time, I probably wouldn't be here.... popcorn.gif
