I have a Gateway MX6453 Media Center edition, running Windows XP; Dual Core, 1.60 Mghz, 1.87 Gig of ram. I bought it new in Nov. 2006. It was really speedy until around Febuary 2007 and then it suddenly started taking forever to boot up. It is also really slow for about 10 minutes or so after it finally is running.
There is one weird thing; something to do with my wireless internet. There is an icon of a broken connection thing in the systray, and it says "No RTL8187". I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem or not. The only thing I did at the time that was notable was I downloaded a couple of modules for firefox. I later uninstalled the modules and that didn't help, so I don't think that was the problem. I have run adaware, spybot and registrybooster and have not found any infections, just some spyware that was removed. Didn't help either. Here is my HijackThis log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 4:18:59 PM, on 4/17/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16640) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs\vsmon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehRecvr.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehSched.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 3.0\PhotoshopElementsDeviceConnect.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllhost.exe C:\WINDOWS\ehome\ehtray.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\WLTRAY.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\Program Files\Lexmark 1200 Series\lxczbmgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\eHome\ehmsas.exe C:\Program Files\Lexmark 1200 Series\lxczbmon.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\REALTEK RTL8187 Wireless LAN Driver and Utility\RtWLan.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.3\program\soffice.exe C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 2.3\program\soffice.BIN C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare Software\bin\EasyShare.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=54896 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=69157 O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Hello Patti
Welcome to the Whatthetech Malware Removal Forum Not looking at anything earth shattering on your HJT log. We do not recommend running any kind of a registry cleaner because if you remove the wrong entries you can bork your system big time. Did you run registrybooster prior to this problem.???? Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to your desktop.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up PopCap games are not recommended Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows including this one, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked. O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://www.popcap.com/games/popcaploader_v6.cab Run this online virus scanner and post the log along with a new HJT log and if all is ok I can direct you to a windows forum where you can get help. Run this free online scan using Internet Explorer: Kaspersky Online Virus Scanner Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Post your log like this.
Post the Kaspersky log and a new HJT log please |
