also must install updates one at a time about fifty percent of the time. have automatic update on winxp pro 2nd edition enabled. any thoughts on permanent fix to both of the above wold be helpful |

Sorry to hear you have problems with your machine. I'm not too sure what you mean by: QUOTE svchost.exe has gone wild. i installed pro explorer and can now stop it, but must do so at each boot. but presumably you have carried out a thorough check for malware?
