my apologies for not having all the info needed ..but it b/c of receiving the blue screen message...but here goes: * computer is Dell Inspiron 6000; running MS xp SP2; 512 RAM (i think) * this is my duaghter's computer and it was running very slow * i tried loading spybot - eventually was successful but then got a virus - Brave-Sentry (hoax-renos) appeared and spybot didn't clear it nor did SpyHunter * so i tried a system restore to an earlier date * when it rebooted, it stopped with the blue screen with the following tech info: *** STOP:0x0000007B (0xF8A5B528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) I have tried rebooting and get the same thing (of course i can only reboot if i pull the plug and take out the battery) so i have reason to believe this is caused by the Brave-Sentry virus but now i can't even get at the computer to try to fix it ugh!!!! any ideas???? thanks!! |

Greetings colorox
Sorry to hear about your trouble with getting the computer to boot properly. A 0x7b error in your case may be a sign of a failed or about to fail hard drive. Yes a virus can make the computer do this, but from what I have read 0xC0000034 indicates that Windows XP has lost access to the system partition or boot volume during the startup process. I am leaning toward hardware at this moment. So there lies the question, hardware or software? If you know what mfg the harddrive is you can get a vendor specific diagnostic to test for problems. (ie seagate, maxtor, toshiba, ibm ect ect ect.) This will allow you to dismiss hardware being at fault. I thought Dell provided some sort of diagnostic disk or tools in the packet of disk with each computer. Browse the disk and check the readme files. Speaking of Hard drive faults, now is the time to consider if there is any information on the Hard drive you dont want to lose. Document, pictures, music, taxes ect. Because in the end you may end up with needing a new drive and a fresh install of the OS. If you make it passed the Hardware testing, then you move on to troubleshooting the software. But thats for another post once you verify you have a good drive. Regards Kaz. This post has been edited by kazzoo: Apr 8 2008, 09:55 PM |

hey kazzoo, i'm having the same problem with the 0000007b and 0xc0000034 error. A bit of background:
monday morning i was booting my inspiron 1505 laptop from hibernation when it froze and dumped the memory. after searching for possible fixes, i ended up trying a repair install of windows. now im getting the 7b error with parameter c..34 which means windows has lost access to the partition. ive run chkdsk /p, /r, i ran fixmbr and when i did bootcfg /scan it told me there was only 1 windows installation F:\minint (which is the recovery console i believe). im running chkdsk /r again and if that doesnt work i might try reseating the ram. do you have any other suggestions? any help would be appreciated. thanks. |
