Hello all. I'm a long time lurker but first time poster. I'm usually pretty good about locking everything down and analyzing/correct any problems if they arise but this one has me stumped. Up until yesterday I had two user accounts on my computer that ran flawlessly, My admin account and another limited use account (guest account is off). Well out of the blue yesterday several programs/files/data (Internet Explorer, my documents folder, etc.) completely disappeared from the limited user account and I have no idea why. When you would log in the desktop kind of looked like it was in "safe mode" with just the recycle bin and Firefox icons on opposite corners of the screen. I ran Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Blaster, & AVG and none of them detected anything. My admin account appears to be fine with the only exception that GoogleUpdater.exe has been asking for permission to access the internet like crazy lately and Spybot asked to delete a 00hex toolbar entry several days later (related?).
I've looked over the HJT log and can't see anything that shouldn't be there and it's driving me nuts. I figured I'd come here and let the experts have a peek. Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated. Ok do this after Kaspersky
You have two firewalls, so you need to disable Windows firewall 1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK. 2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK. |

OK, done. I got a BSOD and the comp rebooted itself as soon as I turned the Windows firewall off. After the reboot the Windows firewall was back on so I turned it ff again.
Ok do this after Kaspersky You have two firewalls, so you need to disable Windows firewall 1. Click Start, click Run, type Firewall.cpl, and then click OK. 2. On the General tab, click Off (not recommended), and then click OK. |

Your logs are clean What problems are you having ? Hello. I'm glad the logs look good. The main issue is the problem mentioned in the first post about the limited use account basically losing all of its data out of the blue. That coupled with the googleupdater trying to rapid fire access the net every few moments has me thinking something is going on behind the scenes. I'm at a loss. Nothing seems readily apparent, so I don't know what the next step is. |
