Hi all. I need help troubleshooting this Network problem. The problem is I have 3 computers and 2 of them can see each other but the one I am on can't see the network. All of the Workgroup names are the same and I have tried changing them on all computers and rebooting all computers plus the router. My DSL Modem/Router is an Actiontec GT704-WG all 3 PCs are running windows XP Service Pack 2. With one able to dual boot into Vista. Any help is appreciated and if you need more info just let me know.

for visa and wireless:

visa protects you from seeing or connecting to an open network, it's hard to find the setting to turn that off

I usually disable firewire bridges, ethernet or wireless if i am not using it, dialup modems and then uninstall connection programs
like aol dialer

then when windows has finally straightened out the tcp/ip stack(sometimes you have to uninstall the actual connection hardware from device manager and reboot)

then I run the wizard for setting up a new home network

I have seen 4 or 5 different devices all trying to connect to the internet on the same computer and none worked

ATM I currently use XP primarily for better gaming support. I have tried uninstalling all connection devices multiple times as well as the setting up a new network.

I was afraid of that, your winsock may be damaged and that's best handled by someone familiar with these tools used for specific infections

Hi Sshadow,

You're already in good hands, with the excellent investigation and assistance of DaChew. thumbup.gif

I'll step in here for just some brief basics, and will follow your progress.

You can safely do the following:

Try the following:
  1. Go to Start | Run, type cmd and press Enter
  2. Copy the following command:
    CODE
    ipconfig /flushdns
  3. Click the image button in the upper left portion of the command prompt window title bar and choose Edit | Paste
  4. Press Enter to execute the command
  5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the following command:
    CODE
    ipconfig /registerdns
  6. Close your Internet browser and reopen, try signing in again
  7. If you are still having issues, repeat steps 3 and 4 with the following command:
    CODE
    netsh winsock reset catalog
  8. Again, you may need to close and reopen your browser

Tried those steps and no luck. Let me clarify however I can connect to the internet just fine. I just can't get into my other two computers from this one. I used to be able to.

I'll be waiting for your reply, prior to additional recommendations, but would like a bit more information.

Has the "problematic machine" ever recognized the Network and been able to access internet connectivity via this Network?
Or is this the first time you've tried?

If this is the first time you've tried, then more additional information please.
Is your Wireless connectivity presently "encrypted" with either WEP or WPA?
If so, you will need to perform: "Add a new computer to the Network" using utilities on the machine that was the first to configure the Network. You can read the Router Manual to learn how to create a Floppy or CD for transferring the Encryption Key to your machine.
____________________--

Does the "problematic" machine have ability to gain access to the Internet, but just can "see" the other two machines?

If so, please do the following"

Start - Run - (type)cmd - Enter
At the blinking cursor type the following:IPconfig /release - Enter <-- notice the required space before the "/"
This action will take a few seconds, and then the blinking cursor will return.

At the blinking cursor type the following:IPconfig /renew - Enter <-- notice the required space before the "/"

Keep us posted with your progress.
