Ok, so I am having trouble with my wireless and decided to finally come ask for help. I have been using a wireless card in my Desktop PC since the router for my apartment is downstairs and I can't get a wired connection. I have been doing this without any problems util 2 days ago, when I installed new antivirus software called "Nod32". All of a sudden, my computer is having trouble connecting. I have tried uninstalling the antivirus and I still have the problem. can anyone help me out with this?
Thanks a bunch |

Hi Clagueux,
Sorry you are in trouble with your Network connection. What Firewall have you installed? If it is Zone Alarm you would need to add your network information to the Trusted Zone of Zone Alarm. Another tip would be AVG 7.5 for your Antivirus, however I doubt that Nod32 is stopping your wireless from connecting to the internet. Post back if you need more information and let us know how you are progressing. kind regards, |

ok, so I got connected again to my wireless router, but for some reason I cant access the internet! It says I am connected fine with 100% signal strength, but I cant do anything with it.
In my network connections, there are two connections. One is my "Wireless Network Connection", then it says "Connected, Firewalled". The other is called "Local Area Connection 3" then it says "Network Cable Unplugged, Firewalled" I tried disabling the 2nd connection, removing firewalls, nothing is working. My roommates can connect fine, but I can't. Why would it say I have a network cable unplugged if I am using wireless? Thanks |

Clagueux,
Something to try. Seeing as how your roommates computer is connecting, in your network connections: double click on "Wireless Network Connection" and then click on the support tab. See what the setting is for your default gateway. Do the same thing on your roommates computer and see if the numbers match. Worth a try. Tomk |

Not trying to jump in on someones else's thread. But wanted to answer a coulpe questions I noticed didn't get answered.
ok, so I got connected again to my wireless router, but for some reason I cant access the internet! It says I am connected fine with 100% signal strength, but I cant do anything with it. In my network connections, there are two connections. One is my "Wireless Network Connection", then it says "Connected, Firewalled". The other is called "Local Area Connection 3" then it says "Network Cable Unplugged, Firewalled" this is normal for most laptops, and or desktops with a both wired and wireless cards. If a eithernet cable isn't plugged in it will show as being unplugged. Laptops can connect to routers, modems, other computer with either a built in network card, or thru the wireless connection I tried disabling the 2nd connection, removing firewalls, nothing is working. My roommates can connect fine, but I can't. Why would it say I have a network cable unplugged if I am using wireless? I kind of answered that above, but you don't need to disable the wired connection because it shouldn't create any conflict or any problems at all Thanks I assume your roommate is also using a wireless connection? If that is the case, you can follow Tomk advise but you might also want to check and see if both yours and your roommates computer are set to automaticly obtain IP address. Antoher thing to be sure and check is if your both connecting to the same wireless router, Not sure of where you live but in apartments, or more or less dense areas it's not uncommon to be able to pickup a signal from another source, i.e. and neighbors wireless router. Just a couple of things for you to look at. Let us know how things are going, post back with anything you find. I'm sure the great folks here will be able to get you thruogh your connection problems. edited: for typos, which I'm sure I still have some This post has been edited by adavis: Jan 29 2008, 07:26 AM |
