Operating System: XP Media Center

Hello,
I am an experienced computer user having built 2 computers and currently maintaining around 15 computers in my home and 3 restaurants and corporate office that I own. But, my wife's fairly new Dell Inspiron 9300 (18 mos old) is making me scratch my head.

I run AVG Free on it. I have Automatic Updates running. I force my wife to use Thunderbird and Firefox. I have scanned this with Spybot S&D and AdAware Personal.

2 months ago the harddrive crashed, and I got a new one and got the PC back to par again from scratch. It run XP Media Center (for no real reason other than it was on the laptop when purchased from outlet.dell.com).

Now, when my wife opens a Word or Excel doc by clicking directly on the document itself, it often takes 30 seconds or more for the document to open - simple documents. The laptop also exhibits general slowness from time to time, making me suspect something sinister, as I cannot fathom anything else that is wrong with it. Also, bootup times are very long. I have 4 other laptops of similar age/specs in the company and they do not take nearly as long to boot (and this behviour is new - it did not used to take this long).

I decided to request the help of the HJT volunteers to see if I am crazy or not.

I am running the folding@home executable on the laptop, which does take up some cpu cycles, but only idle cycles. It also has a big HP multipurpose printer on it, which requires some pretty hefty software on the pc side - i've never been a fan of that thing.

So, log posted below. Please let me know if you see anything strange. Oh, the other day, I deleted a Toshiba Blue Tooth stack that "suddenly" appeared in the list of running processes in the Task Manager. I say "suddenly" because I did not remember seeing it, and b/c we are not using BT right now, I uninstalled the software.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP. VOLUNTEERS ARE GREAT!

Scott Portis
