Among one of the many useful tips in that guide, and one I personally wasn't aware of previously, is the use of wild cards.

Try a Google search for each of the following (don't forget the quotation marks)

"United*America"
"United**America"
"United***America"

Here's another tip about Google -- and a question.

Google has started logging the searches you ask for. When they have more of this type of data accumulated from many users, they plan to sell the information to marketers.

This has led me to start to use other search engines -- like ask.com -- so that all the things I'm interested in don't get logged and sold by Google.

Here's a question. Is there a way to mask my computer's internet address or identity so that Google (and others) can't identify it uniquely?

On your Google tool bar, left hand side you should have a drop down box. Click it and you should have the option to clear search history. You should also be able to delete the drop down boxes by right clicking on any blank spot on the tool bar and unchecking the options it gives, or by going to customize.

Not "Simple" -- but, this is the way --
Go to:
Start, Explorer, Windows, Application data, Mozilla, Firefox, Profiles, Default, and SearchPlugins

Bear in mind - that these are instructions for my system which is Win98SE -- your files may be somewhat different.

Make sure that you delete both of the files associated with "Google" or any other drop-down you wish to eleminate.

I was going to 'show you' by inserting a screen capture -- but, it is not allowed I guess -- to bad, it would be of some help here -- I do hope that I have been able to give directions you understand?

Hope you are able to follow my instructions and get it all sorted.

I remember reading somewhere that you can download a plugin for Firefox and IE7 called 'Scroogle'. Here is what the overview of the site says.
'An ad-free Google search proxy which prevents the searcher's data being stored by Google, a Firefox plugin, and tools for webmasters.'
I have added it to my search drop downs for Firefox, but obviously, can't prove the tool actually does what they claim it does.
