i think my drivers might be on this page, but it wont load: http://www.dtk.com.tw/product/mb/eg65.html i went to intels site and found this. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...27&lang=eng but it will only extract the drivers to a floppy. i tried to get it to work with VFD virtual floppy, but no go. can you extract the drivers and post them? |

Hi, until Jephree gets back to you, a workaround that may appeal to you is to forget about the sata driver for your sata hard drive and just set the bios to ata (ide) and don't even attempt support for ahci (sata) just disable it.
The preformance difference will be practically unnoticable (to most!) Here's a link that may provide a useful overview http://www.mysuperpc.com/build/pc_sata_second_boot.shtml Apologies if this approach is too elementary ... Regards paws |

thanks for the advice, but i'm not very familiar with my computer bios. under integrated peripherals, onchip IDE device, i dont see a SATA option. there's a OnChip Serial ATA option thats disabled? is that what you were talking about being disabled? otherwise i have IDE HDD block mode-Enabled. On-Chip Primary PCI IDE-Enabled...

QUOTE there's a OnChip Serial ATA option Thats the chap! You need to dilligently search through the BIOS........but dont alter anything without writing down all the settings first. Regards paws |

i disabled IDE HDD Block Mode and put OnChip Serial ATA on auto.
when i go to install Windows 7, it comes up with a memory overload error, and wont boot form the CD. when i tried installing XP it got to the point where it asks what drive you want to install it on, and then it bring up this error message. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3063/406134...34be7f20e_b.jpg |

Let's see! Only hook up the serial HDD ( No other DRIVES ), an your CD rom to the white IDE slot, leave the Blue one empty . Your settings are fine, but make sure you select your CD rom to boot first in BIOS. Your HDD needs to be erased, you got bits of flies lost on your HDD. Wipe your memory proms OFF, and try just one memory card above 256mb. Every time you install Windows, it needs a clean slate. I used to get that crappy screen.
http://download.cnet.com/3001-20_4-1007350...2134816f22f6349 Then down size your HDD to 10GB, then install XP. I'm not on Win 7 yet. Also what is the site you go to, to host your pics. So I can show you my settings and Mobo. |

I found a cool pic site! This is the settings I have on mine now. The same Mobo, an behind the sound card you see the serial attached. All I did was erase my SATA HDD, an shrunked it down to 10gb, put the disc in! an went from there. My brother told me his 200gb SATA HDD went through without down sizing it, But he has XP PRO SP3. Use one memory for now to install off a clean erased HDD.

My HDD came with a disc or you can go to the manufactor's web site, an see if they have something there. But usually lots of HDD's come with a disc. Or if not just try it as is an see what happens.

I switched over to flickr. Here are some pic of my settings and Mobo. Note! that my IDE is not hooked up, only my SATA HDD, but it shows up as IDE after the XP PRO install.

Hi Steve, and Ceta....
First, Ceta, thanks for your advice on how to configure the motherboard. From reading through this thread it is apparent that Steve's SATA ports were disabled in the BIOS. However, by "downsizing" the hard drive you are talking about actually re-partitioning the drive to a smaller partition size. This is completely un-necessary unless the drive is over 130GB and you are using a copy of Windows operating system before Windows XP Service Pack 1. So, to save from confusion, I must say this is an un-necessary step. Steve, back to your problem.... First, go into your BIOS settings as shown here in the picture provided by Ceta: http://www.flickr.com/photos/44229658@N07/4068279696/ Make sure that everything on that page is set to ENABLED, or AUTO. Then, you must remove all previous partitions from the hard drive and create a new one and format it NTFS. A guide to installing Windows XP can be found here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Reformat...tem_t91962.html This guide covers removing all previous partitions from the drive. If, after removing previous partitions and creating a new one you still get the error then you are having a hardware issue. As Ceta suggested, it could be a memory problem, or, if it is an older board it could also be a bad capacitor problem as suggested. In order to test your memory, please read here: http://forums.whatthetech.com/How_Test_Mem...ms_t103823.html You can create the memory diagnostic disc on a good computer and run it on your questionable computer. If your memory passes the tests, you can safely eliminate that from your possibilities. Next, you need to examine the motherboard for bad capacitors, they look like this: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&...sa=N&tab=wi They have bulged tops, and orangish crud around them. If you find bad capacitors, unless you are skilled at soldering you might as well trash the computer because it will probably be too much to have a professional repair it. One last thought, if this board really is old enough to have leaking capacitors on it, then is it really capable of even running WIndows 7? Steve, because I really have no idea what kind of system you are working with here, if it is a name brand machine please post the make and model of your machine so we can get some real details on it. Good luck... |

thanks guys. i checked the hardware, and the hard drive was having some issues it didnt have before, so i put in an old one i had laying around, and it works fine. at first XP install wouldnt go, but i installed 7 first, then it worked. i can only assume it loaded the drivers for the hard drive in the 7 installation. (i got an illegal version to test it, hence why i didnt keep it on there, in case you were all wondering why i went backwards).
