Hi nathan960, welcome to WTT.

I'm a bit confused. You said "but i cannot go on websites or MSN, etc, on MSN, it says i have default gateway offline".

If you can't get to MSN.com then how is it telling you your default gateway is offline?

As a test, does your laptop work correctly if you connect it using an Ethernet cable rather than wireless? If yes then this is a wireless problem and not a more generic network problem.

Isf the wireless built into your laptop or are you using a PCMCIA wireless card or a USB external wireless device?
Does the wireless icon show in the system tray of the Taskbar (right side)?
