Hello everyone,

I was originally trying to have my problem solved in another area of this message board but nothing was working so I was referred here (by tallin).

MY PROBLEM: I am unable to connect to the internet either through LAN line or wireless. It always says there is "Limited or No Connectivity." Here is the thread I originally posted in, which describes what I have done up to this point: http://forums.whatthetech.com/Internet_Con...ems_t96029.html

EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE PROBLEM:
Everything had been working fine, and then shortly after installing SP3 it looked as if I had been infected by a Trojan. I researched several sites and forums such as this for people who had similar problems. Virtually everything I read said it was a false positive detected by AVG Antivirus (the program I had been running). I had also ran Spyware Doctor a couple times to try and catch it but all scans were clean. However, my computer was still running quite slow. I figured I'd just kind of do a clean-out on my computer since I had a bunch of junk and it was worthlessly slow at the time. (I was able to operate normally and access internet in safe mode during this time). I deleted numerous programs of mine that were rarely used (quite a few plugins for recording software, other junk programs I had and AVG because I figured I'd just install it later once I got everything working again). I the went into msconfig through the Run menu to remove all of the checked startup programs except for my firewall and two others I believe. After this, the computer began operating normally as before, except for the problems with the internet, and it was after this that the internet stopped working, if I am remembering correctly. Since internet had stopped working I reset my msconfig to startup normally as before (selecting "Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services)), but still am having the same internet problems as before. Then I created an account here and that's where you came in.

Thank you very much in advance for all your help,

aak

Hello and welcome to the forum

I don't see a anti-virus program running. Get a free one.

avast! 4
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Or

Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus
http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1/downl..._antivirus.html

Run a full scan and let us know what it finds along with a new HijackThis log.

Ran a scan with AVG Antivirus and it came up clean with 0 infections found (I wasn't able to use the ones you suggested because I needed to connect to the internet to activate them, so I simply downloaded AVG, saved to a flash drive and put that on my laptop).

The computer is running at normal speed and I notice no difference in performance as before except for the limited/no connectivity internet problem.

Lets try something.
I see you already know how to use msconfig.
Run msconfig and uncheck you COMODO Firewall.

Reboot and see what happens.

I presume by that you mean that if I were in the Network Connections window, right clicked my wireless internet connection icon, clicked on Properties and then selected the "Wireless Networks" tab, the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" box should be checked? If that is the case, it is already checked. For the properties under the LAN connection under the "Authentication" tab, "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network" is checked and so is "Authenticate as computer when computer information is available."

Or is there somewhere else I am supposed to have Windows control it?

Looks ok to me.

You might want to print these instructions out.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download.
It must be saved directly to your desktop.

Make sure you are disconnected from the net

1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan.
  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

2. Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts.
  • If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

3. Now double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze.
Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed.
