My PC was built by Alienware and its only a yr old. It is running slow, IE crashes, and locks up. I have defraged, ran Mcafee virus, along with Spybot Search and Destroy. Every once in a while, when going to a website, i get redirected, but not always. My system reboots sometimes on its own, but b4 it does, it shows the blue screen of death, but it doesnt stay there long enough to see what it says. Here is my HJT file.

Hi Mooze.. Welcome to WhatTheTech....

You mention some issues that sound related to a malware infection, and I have reason to believe that you are infected.

This is the wrong forum for posting a HJT log in though. You will have to read HERE and create a new topic HERE. The folks in the HJT/Malware removal forum will take care of inspecting your log and your computer and advising you on how to clean your computer if any infections are found.

Until you are given the all clear over there, we are unable to offer you any further assistance in this thread. When you receive the all clear, if there are any further remaining issues, please come back to this thread and follow up so that we may assist you in resolving any further issues.

Welcome aboard!

It will remain open for you to come back to when your malware thread is given the all clear.

Please let the malware specialist get your computer cleaned up, if infected, and then come back to this thread with any remaining problems.

Its preferrable if you maintain this thread, rather than start a new one.

Hi Mooze.. I've been following your malware thread and am very much satisfied that you received the help you needed over there. Welcome back to the tech side... smile.gif

I'd be glad to finish tweaking up your computer for the best performance possible.

Let's start by running a PCPitStop test so we can evaluate some performance parameters and tweak them. smile.gif
How to run PCPitStop's Overdrive tests:
  • Please click here to go to the PCPitStop Overdrive sign-up page: Signup at PCPitStop (You need to use Internet Explorer with this test so that an ActiveX control can be installed.)
  • Click "Create a free account"
  • Enter in your relevant information on the sign-up page. You must sign-up in order to have your results recorded so that we can take a look at them here.
  • After signing up you'll see the "Registration Complete" page, and you can click "Test Your System Now" to return to the test page.
  • Login with your newly created e-mail address and password on the left hand side.
  • Follow the directions to "Scan this system now." An activeX control will need to be installed. It is safe, and you should allow it to be installed.
  • Once the tests have been run, you will see an "Almost there" page requesting further information about your computer and your experience with PCPitStop, just scroll down to the bottom and click "GO."
  • A test results page will display, and I need the link to that page.
  • Look in the address bar of your browser. It will look like 'http://www.pcpitstop.com/betapit/...' Please copy and paste that here to the forum.

Note: PCPitStop may recommend that you use certain utilities to fix problems on your computer. At WhatTheTech, the help we provide is free. We do not endorse or recommend the use of any products PCPitStop may suggest. Instead, we prefer to help you with each issue manually without using possible pay to use programs.

Mooze, I have reviewed your PCPitStop link. I really don't see any significant speed issues on your computer. There a few processes we could eliminate and could possibly speed up your boot time. But, the results would be minimal. You could also replace McAfee with a lighter weight free anti-virus that would help performance. But again, with your system, I think the gain would be minimal.

If everything seems to be working OK on your PC now, I would suggest that it appears to be a good running machine.

Please let me know if there are any specific performance problems or other issues.

Well thats sounds good. Since the malware was removed my pc hasnt crashed, locked up, or reboot itself. But there are a few programs that i would like not to start at boot up, and would like some help disabling to start when i want to use them.
I dont want Yahoo messenger loading at start up, along with Widgets. Also, i have a few games installed and cant seem to remove them. I tried using Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs that didnt work. I tried using the game uninstaller, that didnty work either. The ones i want gone are Final Fantas XI and all its expansions. PlayOnline Viewer, which is associated with FFXI. Rappelz is supposed to be uninstalled, but there seems to be quite a bit of its files somewhere on the drive.

If you want to manage the programs that startup when you boot your computer, try this: CodeStuff Starter.

Install it, run it, click the "Startups" tab and uncheck to disable programs you don't want loading when you turn your computer on.

For the games.. The installer information has probably been damaged. In this case, they are mostly harmless, and probably just an "eye sore" more than anything.

If you want to get rid of the space the game takes, find its folder in your "Program Files" folder (usually, C:\Program Files) and delete it. This will free up the space it might be using. You can also delete any entries off your desktop or start menu related to the program so you no longer find it. The last thing you might try is the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility which, after being installed, will let you remove any remaining installer information about the program and should remove it from your add/remove programs list. Other than that you might have some things left behind in the registry but they pose no real issue and are better left alone.

If you want to be able to uninstall a program properly, you probably need to try "reinstalling" it first, and then uninstalling it.
