I have Windows XP Pro x64. I've downloaded and installed several versions of WinZip but none of them can unzip WinZip programs. WinZip used to unzip WinZipped programs for me though. It stopped doing it about a week ago. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it didn't help. Right now I have WinZip 12.0 installed. The icons are the kind that appear when a computer doesn't recognize the type of file that's in a computer (shown in the attachment) and asks you which program it should use to open it. Does anyone know what's going on and how I can get WinZip to work again? . |

P.S. (The edit function wouldn't work)
When I install each version of WinZip, I allow the default setting for the type of files that WinZip is allowed to open. The only box that is unchecked in the default setting is for WinRar archives, .rar. |

Hello Denise. Try right-clicking on the zipped file and select the Open With option. Select Choose Program... in the sub-menu and look for WinZip on the corresponding screen. Highlight WinZip and check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and click OK. Next, try opening the file again and see if it opens or not. Good Luck. :thumb:

Hi Mohit,
I tried your suggestion but I received the message that says that WinZip could open the file but it might not run properly/look proper after it's been unzipped (paraphrasing). I tried several programs and received the same message. To be on the safe side, I ran MBAM, SUPERAntiSpyware and Avast in High mode to see if I picked up malware but only a few cookies were found by SUPERAntiSpywre. |

I kept downloading and installing different versions of WinZip and found one that works . . . v WinZip Pro v11.0.7313. I don't know why this one works and the others wouldn't . . .

It may remain a mystery, but you just can't argue with success.
Alternatively, many folks rely on the open source "7 Zip" http://www.7-zip.org/download.html |
