![]() DO NOT use any TOOLS such as Combofix, Vundofix, or HijackThis fixes without supervision. Doing so could make your pc inoperatible and could require a full reinstall of your OS, losing all your programs and data. Stay with this topic until I give you the all clean post. You might want to print these instructions out. I suggest you do this: Double-click My Computer. Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options. Click the View tab. Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types." Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders." Clear "Hide protected operating system files." Click Apply, and then click OK. Please do not delete anything unless instructed to. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. Download - ATF Cleaner» Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. (If you use FireFox or the Opera browser To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.) It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two. Next: Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
Also "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread. Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment. |

I ran both as you instructed and No Malware was found with the scanner, just like my SpybotS&D, Ad-Aware and Avast!AntiVirus.
I still have a peer-to-peer Viral SSID show up in my Wifi list, even though it is NOT in my preferred networks list. I need to somehow delete what this is and what it is associated with. It can't be legit, and my system is still acting very strange with my WiFi, including my Avast!AntiVirus claiming that it has a new version to install twice in the same week (which I DON'T think is correct, it's the core program saying this and NOT updates, leading me to think I might be compromised.) -NEW MALWAREBYTE'S ANTI-MALWARE LOG: Database version: 1412 Executable location: C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Database location: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref Username: Jason Windows folder: C:\WINDOWS System folder: C:\WINDOWS\system32 Root drive: C: Program Files: C:\Program Files Common Files: C:\Program Files\Common Files Desktop: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Desktop Desktop: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop Desktop: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Desktop Start Menu: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Start Menu Start Menu: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu Start Menu: C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Start Menu Start Menu: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Start Menu Start Menu: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu User Root: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User User Root: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users User Root: C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService User Root: C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService User Root: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason Favorite: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Favorites Favorite: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Favorites Favorite: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Favorites Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Application Data Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Application Data Application Data: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data Quick Launch: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch Quick Launch: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch Temporary Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temp Temporary Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temp Temporary Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temp Temporary Folder: C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Local Settings\Temp Temporary Folder: C:\WINDOWS\Temp -NEW HJT LOG: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 10:19:11 PM, on 11/19/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\EvtEng.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\Wireless\Bin\S24EvMon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZONELABS\vsmon.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\aswUpdSv.exe C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxtray.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPLpr.exe C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\RTHDCPL.EXE C:\acer\epm\epm-dm.exe C:\Acer\eManager\anbmServ.exe C:\PROGRA~1\LAUNCH~1\QtZgAcer.EXE C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jusched.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zlclient.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe C:\Program Files\Spybot - Link 1 Link 2 Link 3 * IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures. ![]() Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message: ![]() Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply. "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread as well. Notes: 1.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall. 2. ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making I-E the default browser. 3. Combofix prevents autorun of ALL CD, floppy and USB devices to assist with malware removal & increase security. If this is an issue or makes it difficult for you -- please tell your helper. 4. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine. Give it atleast 20-30 minutes to finish if needed. Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment. |

Disable auto-connection or advertisement for ad-hoc networks in your wireless auto configuration utility. This behavior is default in Windows Vista. In windows XP, ensure that you have selected the “Access point (infrastructure) network only” in the “Advanced” configuration of Wireless Network Connection Properties. If you need to connect to a peer device, make sure of the identity of the peer device before connecting. If you ever do connect to such a network, clear it from your PNL after you are done. |

I have read up on SSID and have infrastructure only enabled, and the Viral SSID seems to still show up (EVEN WITHOUT THE WIFI TURNED ON AT ALL). I have deleted it from the Preferred Networks List, but it still shows up under the list of WiFi Hotspots EVERYWHERE I go (even when offline!). Something is amiss with this. Could it be a registry dirty trick?
