(I dislike the DivX player because it seems very buggy, resource-intensive and unstable compared to MPC.) |

After I didn't get a reply for the first few days, I deleted the particular files I was referring to as more trouble than they were worth; however, I'll keep that in mind if similar problems arise in the future.

QUOTE I deleted the particular files I was referring to as more trouble than they were worth There may be an unanticipated dividend for you in that action. Poorly coded or poorly packaged media can cause much more trouble than the content is worth. Additionally, requirements of singular and obscure codecs can turn out to be the vector for malicious code (virus/trojan). If it doesn't play via commonly accepted and validated compression code interpreters (codecs) it is probably better to dump the content and seek other legitimate sources for the media content if it is valuable to you. Thanks for being part of WTT Forums. Doug |

Having had that very thing happen semi-recently (not with these files), I know exactly what you mean. However, these were, according to their 4CCs, straight DivX 5 files. They just wouldn't play in some players. That's precisely what was so weird about the situation.
I suspect the encoding was just screwed up somehow (probably through stupidity, not malice). This post has been edited by Jeff H: May 3 2009, 01:54 PM |
