Recently I picked up a very clean, lightly used, Compaq Presario 2110. It hadn't been online for about two years and didn't have a WiFi card. After cleaning it up a little and getting it online with some network adapters, I've been bringing it up to speed as best as I can. I've put AVG on it, (It had no antivirus program) and ran a clean scan. Installed Malwarebytes and ran a clean scan, updated Windows with about 75 updates including SP3. Everything works pretty well but I know you guys can offer some more suggestions for things to update it with. One thing I've noticed is that the USB ports must be an old version, everytime I plug something in it says to try and find a different port as this one is slower than it could be. Anyway I can change that? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I know just enough about computers to be seriously dangerous... smack.gif

Hello.

Sounds like you've got things pretty much under control.

I would perform a full surface scan on the hard drive because laptops often have problems with hard drives.

Click start -> run -> type CMD and press ENTER. Type chkdsk /r and press ENTER. Answer Yes to schedule a scan during the next reboot and then restart your computer.

As far as the USB ports go, you may be able to purchase a PCMCIA to USB adapter. But, I would say it is hardly worth it. THe slower USB ports are just that. Slower. They still function as normal.
