when I press the power button on the computer to turn it on, it starts to power up for a second then turns off... then about another second later it turns on again and loads up normally

i've been told it may be something to do with 'speedstep' but i'm unsure what speedstep is. If it's an application, i don't have it installed, so i'd doubt it was that.

I can make a video of it if required. My PC will boot up normally right after it 'turns off' and i dont need to keep pressing the power on button, but it does seem strange to me. Any help will be appreciated.

As to "speedstep" it is a function of Intel CPU's as seen here:

http://www.intel.com/cd/channel/reseller/a.../eng/203838.htm

I don't see how that would be an issue. Has it always acted like this? Or is this a new issue?

Is this your new build? Do you have the latest BIOS?

hi there jephree,

Well it seemed ok the other day (yes this is my new build). I think it's a new issue. I will try updating the BIOS

Updating the BIOS seems to have done the trick. Thanks for pointing me in that direction, i was thinking something was connected wrong on the mobo.

No problem. Glad it worked. It is good to check your manufacturer every now and then for BIOS updates.

Although most relate to keeping up with newer CPUs some iron out bugs in the chipset.

The board on my last build came out with 10 new BIOS in its first year.
