I am fairly knowledgeable about computers and have used many distros of Linux, however Linspire 5.0 does not allow me to turn off ACPI at boot up like other distros of Linux does using a switch like ACPI=off. I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this either specifically for Linspire 5.0 or on a Compaq SR1010NX pc. I actually have two Compaqs and neither allows me to disable the ACPI, but other brands allow it to work just fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.
