I am considering buying a laptop. My usage is for doing internet,watching movies and running automated testing applications (such as qtp). Firstly, i was looking for dell but due to service problems, i dropped dell. But, now, i am considering compaq 610 but it gives c2d processor with 2.0 ghz frequency. I want the latest c2d processor with 3.0 ghz frequency. Does any laptop provide that processor or any other good suggestions for any other good laptops?

I prefer compaq and HP computers (one and the same). You are correct about Dells.

Laptops are made for portability. Its going to be very tough to mix power and portability together. Laptops have heat and space problems and usually will sacrifice performance for portability.

If you expect to have a top of the line processor you can expect to pay big bucks, have lots of heat, and little battery life most likely.

The best suggestion is to find a balance and always keep in mind they are made to be portable not powerful. If you want power, buy a desktop.

HP and Dell are the two big players but I still like the former IBM Thinkpads. I'd rather compromise on the processor in favor of a larger HD screen though.
