This is a dummy Topic for use in practicing Split Topic Moderator Options
Split Topic is generally used when an OP has added a post such as a "me-too" comment. The Team Member may decide that the OP should not have "hijacked" the original OP's topic, and would also be better served by having their own Topic Thread so that their problem gets the attention it deserves without being confused and complicated with instructions related to the original OP's problem. __________________________ Select the posts that you wish to "split-off" from the Thread by "clicking" the small checkmark box in the upper right-hand corner of the targeted post(s). You may select one or several posts to "split" from the original Thread. (the "color" of the checkmark/tick and box will change when you select it. From the Moderation Options pull-down menu at the end of the Thread (use the Mod/options on the right-hand side of your screen) Select - Split Topic Since you have already checkmark/ticked the posts you wish to split off, you will see: With Selected ( x ) where "x" is the count of number of posts you have checkmark/ticked to spit off. You have already Selected - Split Topic from the pull down menu. Now put it into action by clicking --> With Selected You will then be presented with a panel where you can create: Topic Title (create a Title for the New Topic where the split-off posts will go) Topic Description (describe it if you wish) Select Forum for New Topic (pull-down menu) (designate which Forum the New Topic will be located) The Post(s) that you have selected for Splitting will appear below in this same panel to assure you that the correct posts are selected. Press - Split the Selected Posts <-- this puts the process in action and there is no turning back. (well, yes there is. You can always "Merge" the posts you just "Split" back into the original Thread if you think you made a mistake. Done p.s. that distant cheering and groaning you hear in the background will be the audience of other more experienced Team Members who have already faced this daunting maneuver a few times, but still enjoy watching the sweat pour off the forehead of the first-time users of Split Topic. |

For this exercise:
Presume that this post is a "me too" post from a second OP and presume that it would be better served in its own New Topic. Split it off. |

There really isn't anyone watching..... but there may be some who wish they could have.
Split this post off too. When you are done with this exercise... **** Please reconstruct the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th posts in this Topic, so that the next Team Member wishing to practice Split Topic Moderating Option will have some material to work with. (you can do the reconstruction by Merging your freshly created New Topic back into this one.) There is an interesting caveat when Merging. --- You have to be sure that you correctly selected which posts or thread will be merging, and which will remain as the host for the new material. Or you can create new posts for 2nd, 3rd and 4th posts, if you don't want to try the Merge option at this time. I'd recommend that you create the New Topic into which you Spit these posts, right here in All Teams Forum. I would have placed this exercise in Test Forum, but Team Members do not have Mod/options in that Forum. |
