am having problems with getting on the internet. I have a a verizon westell router which seems to be working fine ( my other laptop and printers are all working fine), but y pc seems to be not working. the problem started after i installed sp3. when there was no connectivity, i uninstalled sp3 and "limited or no connectivity" is gone, but internet
connection is off.

I am connected throyugh LAN (connected), when i right click on it and go to "status," it says it is connected.
here are the details

Ip Adress 198.162.1.44
SUbnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.1.1
DHCP server 192.168.1.1
lease obtained : 10/2/209
lease expires: 10/3/2009
DNS servers: 192.168.1.1
DHCP enabled yes
autoconfiguration enabled yes

have tried everything..through ipconfig ipconfigflushdns, renew.

WHen I try to ping the router, the request is timed out (4 times)

my tcp/ip protocol is set at "obtain ip address and dns server automatically"

when i do ipconfig /renew, i get this message, " an error occurred while renewing interface local area connection: unable to connect to you dhcp server. Request has timed out."

when i access the router at 192.168.1.1 through my other functional laptop, i can see the nonfunctional computer on the network,, but the status is "unconnected" and the ip address is set at "static"

anyone can help me out?

You seem to have valid IP and a gateway addresses. Is the address you are pinging, 192.168.1.1?

The first thing I would try is Winsock Fix, see if that helps.

Have you tried the power reset routine?

Power everything off
Power on the router, wait until it settles down
Power on the computer you are having trouble with, wait it for it to settle down.
Open a command prompt and do a ipconfig /all , see what it looks like.
Ping the router: 192.168.1.1

If none of this helps, how about doing a System Restore to before you installed SP3?

Do you have a XP Install CD?

i have tried everything, but nothing seems to work. My other laptop is working, but this pc is not. I installed sp3 about a month ago, and system restore, for whatever reason, isnt going that far. and i dont have a xp install CD. it's a dell.\m btw. i would try the winsocfix, but i dont even have internet access, so not sure how i can access it. so you think the router is working fine, yes, i was pinging 192.168.1.1, and i got four "request timedout" responses. what do you think the problem is. anyways, regardless of what happens, thanks for such a prompt reply

I would like to add that my wireless connection is working, i just jumped into my neighbor's unsecured network and it seems to be connected, but no internet. so i know it's not the router. any ideas what could be causing it to not be able to connect to the internet

How are you posting here? Use that computer to download the Winsock Fix, then put it on a flash drive, floppy or burn to CD and take it to the computer that is not working and run it there.

Check your TCP/IP setup.

Go to Network Connections, right-click on the LAN connection then left-click properties. Double-click the Internet Protocol [TCP/IP] entry, make sure everything is setup correctly. Compare it to your working system.
