Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
Scan saved at 2:12:54 PM, on 7/22/2007
Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)

I have A QuickTime Eater on My PC. I can't dowload QuickTime, save it run it or even name a phony file QuickTime with out it being swallowed up. HELP PLEASE! I can run the installlation off the web but the program does not run when I click on the icon on my desktop. The file does not appear in my program files. I do however have a few things in my "system32" that I can't get rid of

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\QuickTimeChec□" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\qt-dx331.dll"

I get the following error mesage when trying to delete them "Cannot delete file:Cannot read from source file or disk"

I think I may have downloaded a program in the past that is harmful to to QuickTime, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was.

Any Help would be great.

Description of qt-dx331.dll
This is a component of DivX. DivX is a program that enables the compression, viewing, and encoding of videos in the DivX codec format. It can also play avi and .divx files that contain DivX video and MP3. The program supports all popular media players.

Have you downloaded and installed DivX Player?

You "may" be dealing with a malware infection problem, completely separate from DivX or qt-dx331.dll.
___________

What Security utilities do you have installed on your machine?
Updated? Used recently?

Best Regards

Thanks for identefying that file, It is the Quicktime file that is the real problem. I have AVG anti virus on my PC and It tells me I am Clean. I also have run Spybot and got rid of the spyware it identified. This bug passes inspection but eats or blocks anything associated with QuickTime.

If you have DivX Player installed, consider uninstalling it.
You can always reinstall it later if it is not the culprit.

Well I did what you said; I uninstalled Dvix and ran the AVG Spyware scan. I could not save a report it would not let me.

However, there was one bug that it found that may be the problem:

Trojan.Netstop.p C:\System Volume Information\_restore{0C9B82A3-73824045-BEDA-BAF35DA5B179}RP736\A0154296.bat

"Probably" OK at this point, but "possibly" a problem for the future..........
That identified trojan is in your System Restore......... Therefore it is "probably" not able to have any effect on your current functioning, but could become a future problem if you resort to using Restore Points to return your machine to a previous level of functioning.

Most people would be "tempted" to simply wipe out the System Restore file by turning it off and then back on.
***Don't do that, yet!***

Instead, let's make sure there are no other bad-guys lurking undetected at this point.

Please Post a HJT Log over into the Malware Removal forum.

After your Expert Advisor completes recommendations for cleaning/assuring that your machine is clean, the last recommendation you will receive will be to clear out your System Restore. It would be safe to do so at that time, but please wait until you complete any other instructions from your Expert advisor.

Getting malware free......... may still not "fix" your present situation, or maybe it will.

If you are still having the same or similar difficulty after you've finished your Malware Removal work, then please post back here, and we'll see about clearing out the downloaded program files, etc. to get a clean shot at installing your application.

Best Regards
